Well known for Australia’s biggest and best collection of theme parks, more waterways than Amsterdam and Venice combined, and 300 days of sunshine every year, it’s no wonder that Queensland’s Gold Coast is New Zealand’s favourite holiday playground.
Surfers Paradise, the city by the beach, is made for fun: the ‘Glitter Strip’ is famous for its beachside accommodation, entertainment, and night life. Or if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, superb restaurants and incredible shopping, head to Broadbeach.
Dining out is taken very seriously here, and with new restaurants and cafés appearing all the time, you really are spoilt for choice. There’s plenty of fine and casual dining options, or maybe you’d prefer to stop by the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-op for some amazing freshly caught seafood, straight off the trawler. Add some beautiful, locally grown produce from one of the local farmers’ markets, and pick up something special during a brewery, winery or distillery tour, and you’re ready to enjoy a feast of fresh flavours.
The Gold Coast is the ultimate family holiday destination, and whilst its five theme parks offer all the thrill rides, stunt shows and favourite character encounters you could wish for, there’s plenty more on offer. Get to know the locals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, experience hydrofoiling or jet boating ‘Aussie-style’ on the Broadwater or take in a dinner show at the Outback Spectacular.
But the Gold Coast isn’t just for families, if beach clubs, roof top bars and pampering yourself is more your speed then check out the newly opened Calli Beach, The Island is a gem and you and take in a show at the Pink Flamingo. If you really just want to soak up some sunshine, wander the board walks and explore then you’ll find the Gold Coast is a haven of beautiful beaches and tranquil parks.
If you’re a nature lover, a visit to Mt. Tamborine is a must – known as the ‘green behind the gold’, this is different side of the Gold Coast that’s not to be missed. With the third oldest National Park in the world, numerous walks, lookouts, home-grown produce, spas and art galleries, there’s something for everyone. Out on the water, there are more locals to meet: take a whale watching cruise or explore beneath the waves at Wonder Reef – a purpose-built dive attraction off the coastline that’s opening in 2022.
The Gold Coast offers fun and adventure, thrills and relaxation: to experience it for yourself and for many more amazing holiday ideas, check out our latest Queensland deals below.
