SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco

This vibrant city has so much to offer, and no visit would be complete without a cable car ride from Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, where you can see the popular sea lion colony. A visit to Alcatraz is a must. Explore the federal prison where some of America’s most famous gangsters did their time. Explore San Francisco’s diverse and colourful neighborhoods by foot, wandering the narrow alleys of Chinatown, stopping for coffee in North Beach, and finally Union Square for a spot of shopping. After a long day of sightseeing, sit and watch one of San Francisco’s sunsets over the bay.

SOME THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN SAN FRANCISCO

Golden-Gate-Bridge-square GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

Decisions, decisions – walk, cycle, drive or take a helicopter flight over the bridge
Alcatraz-square ALCATRAZ

Prison for the first half of the 20th century, now a fab tourist attraction. Ferry across to this un-missable landmark. Tickets are definitely recommended to be pre-purchased before you go – these can sell out months in advance in high season (May-September).
Cable-Car-square CABLE CARS

A ride on a cable car is compulsory in San Francisco. Grab one from Market Street to Fisherman’s Wharf on Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason lines or the California line runs from the Financial District through Nob Hill to Van Ness Ave.
Fishermans-Wharf-square FISHERMAN'S WHARF/ GHIRARDELLI SQUARE

Take a walk along Pier 39 and see the sea lions that have made the wharf their home. Also a great place for souvenir shopping. Chocolate lovers – Ghirardelli Square is home of the chocolate by the same name and has fabulous sundaes and chocolate treats
Union-Square-square UNION SQUARE

Great shopping! Enjoy the hustle and bustle of Union Square.
Lombard-Street-square LOMBARD STREET

Drive or walk down the most crooked part of the street between
Hyde and Leavenworth streets – beware, it’s steep.
Sausalito-square SAUSALITO

Spend an afternoon in this seaside town browsing the cafés, restaurants, shops and galleries.
Alamo-Square-square ALAMO SQUARE

See the six sisters and other ‘painted ladies’ – the famous row of colourful Victorian houses.
Mission-District-square MISSION DISTRICT

Not only is the Mission District San Francisco’s oldest neighbourhood, it has some of the hottest new restaurants and art galleries. Don’t forget to take a stroll amongst the famed murals of the area.
