What is a day in the life of your role?
Mostly my working day consists of meetings with new and existing clients looking at booking a holiday or further tailoring existing arrangements to best meet their personal requirements and adding value. You are working with various suppliers to pull this together so a lot of this role is about working relationships, time management and high attention to detail when working in the background to pull arrangements together seamlessly for clients. We have various platforms that we utilise to best manage booking from start to finish.
Do you have any advice for someone wanting to pursue a career as a Travel Consultant?
It’s a really fun industry to work in. Our lives are defined by experiences and travel is something that brings people together it’s always a talking point over a coffee or at the dinner table and if travel is one of your passions it’s a seamless transition to turn these shared conversations/interactions with people into a rewarding career.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love about the role is that you get out what you are prepared to put in. I am constantly learning and challenged. There is nothing better than becoming engrossed in an extensive itinerary and seeing it come together knowing you have tailored a bespoke itinerary. Not to mention the travel opportunities that come with the role.
What is something unique about your team?
I find that people that work in the industry have this “Work hard, play hard” attitude. And while we are driven to get results (very competitive) we know how to have some fun along the way as well.
What is your favourite thing about working for HOT?
We work collectively as a team/group nationwide to ensure clients get the best possible service and destination knowledge. House of Travel has so much depth of knowledge when it comes to this and there is a real community spirit and shared passion.
Do you have a favourite destination?
I have been so fortunate to travel extensively and find it difficult to pick a “favourite” with each destination so vastly different offering a different experience each time. But I know I will always (time and time again) be drawn back to Croatia on the Adriatic Coast. If you enjoy being out on the water historic old towns, delectable food and wine you can look past it. Swim all day, leaping of the boat into the Adriatic sea before docking right downtown in the heart of it all, hire bikes to explore or wander around the old town. There’s great beach clubs, restaurants a hub of activity.
