CHICAGO

Chicago

Is Chicago your kind of town? Jazz and blues bars, towering skyscrapers, the famous silver ‘bean’ and one HUGE lake – Chicago has a vibrant energy reflecting its diverse cultures. By day the shopping is superb and at night the music scene comes alive. Not to mention the architecture that Chicago is famous for, which has a lot to do with the rebuilding of the city after the great fire of 1871. In contrast to the towering skyscrapers are the Art Deco gems and the parklands on the banks of Lake Michigan where you can join the locals on the water or take a stroll in the park.

SOME THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN CHICAGO

Sport-square SPORT

Depending on the time of year, you’ll be able to join the sports mad locals at a Bears, Bulls, White Sox, Cubs or Blackhawks game.

Navy-Pier-square NAVY PIER

Ride on the ferris wheel that’s modelled after the very first ferris wheel ever built for Chicago’s 1893 World Expo. You can also take lake cruises from here.

Great-Views-square GREAT VIEWS

Get up high and see for miles from either the Willis Tower’s Skydeck or if you’re feeling brave you can ‘tilt’ over the city at 360 Chicago – where the moving glass enclosure leans you over the edge of the John Hancock Centre.

Deep-Dish-Pizza-square DEEP DISH PIZZA

Indulge in some cheesy goodness at the famous pizzerias that serve up the huge and delicious deep dish pizza. Uno Pizzeria & Grill (a mainstay since 1943) and Giordano’s are two good pizza spots.
Music-square MUSIC & MUSIC FESTIVALS

They say the term ‘jazz’ was first coined in Chicago back in 1914, and there are still many great live jazz clubs around the city, Andy’s is a good one to check out. If blues is more your style then Buddy Guy’s Legends is a great place to start. The man himself still plays there quite often. Hear living legends at the Chicago Jazz Festival, which occurs over the US Labour Day weekend. Or if you’re more rock ‘n’ roll than jazz head along to the famous Lollapalooza Music Festival.

Theatre-square THEATRE

There is an amazing theatre scene with five Tony award-winning theatre companies, and over 200 theatres in total. You can find anything from a Broadway show to an edgy original play, along with a symphony orchestra, dance companies and a world-class opera company.
Public-Art-square PUBLIC ART

In the heart of the downtown ‘Loop’ area there is some great public art including a massive Picasso sculpture and a Chagall mosaic.
Dinosaurs-square DINOSAURS

Pay a visit to The Field Museum to see the largest, most complete, best preserved T.Rex ever discovered. They call her Sue!
