SUN: AUSTRALIA & BEIJING
Depart Australia by Cathay Pacific Airways to Beijing via Hong Kong. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Beijing Marriott City Wall Hotel for four nights.

MON-WED: BEIJING
Three days visiting fascinating sights such as the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Tour the Sacred Way, the Exhibition Hall of the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall. See the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and visit the Silk Market. Witness the ‘hutongs’ – the ‘back alley’ – by cycle rickshaw and dine with a local family where you can obtain a glimpse into their lifestyle. Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner and a performance of ‘The Legend of Kung Fu’ during your stay.

THU: BEIJING & XIAN
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Xian and stay two nights at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel. Enjoy a cultural show with dinner at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

In Xian marvel at amazing archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the Chariot Exhibition, the Shaanxi History Museum and the 14th Century old City Wall.

SAT: XIAN & JIUZHAIGOU
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Jiuzhaigou, a mountainous area with some of the most spectacular scenery in China. Stay two nights at the Sheraton Resort.

SUN: JIUZHAIGOU
Named after the nine Tibetan settlements in the region, Jiuzhaigou is a beautiful alpine valley with bright crystalline lakes, snowcapped mountains and waterfalls. Spend the day exploring this World Heritage listed site and be welcomed into a Tibetan family home. This evening, enjoy a spectacular cultural show with music and dance by the Tibetan and Qiang nationalities.

MON: JIUZHAIGOU & CHENGDU
Morning drive to Songpan, once a Ming dynasty garrison post and preserved with its original cross-shaped street plan, high stone walls, old wooden buildings and ancient gates. As a busy marketplace for nearby Tibetan, Qiang and Hui communities, see farmers and cattle herders on horseback, artisans peddle their local handicrafts. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengdu and stay two nights at the Regal Master Hotel.

TUE: CHENGDU
Visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, an important conservation complex which focuses on the evolution, habits and habitats of pandas. There may be a chance for a group photo with Helen’s adorable adopted panda, ‘Ankali’. Visit Sanxingdui Museum and see the drama-charged bronze masks dating from the Shang dynasty. This evening, enjoy a performance of “Changing Face".

WED: CHENGDU & Mt. EMEI
Transfer by coach to Mt. Emei, one of China’s four sacred Buddhist mountains. Reaching 3099 metres above sea level at its ‘Golden Summit’, stay one night at the Emei Shan Grand Hotel.

THU: Mt. EMEI, LESHAN & CHENGDU
Transfer by coach to Leshan. Visit the Lingyin Temple and have an unobstructed view of the Giant Buddha (71 metres) which is carved into the mountain overlooking the treacherous confluence of the Min, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. Coach back to Chengdu and stay one night at the Regal Master Hotel.

FRI: CHENGDU & LIJIANG
Fly to Lijiang and stay three nights at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Located high among dramatic mountain scenery and near the Tibet border, it is the centre of the Naxi minority people. Described as a ‘living museum’, the old city is criss-crossed with canals, cobbled streets and ornate wooden buildings. Afternoon visit the Black Dragon Pool.

SAT: LIJIANG
See the 500 year old Camellia Tree when you visit the Yufeng Lamasery. Take a chairlift up the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and enjoy a walk through the spruce forests where a variety of highland plants thrive. This evening, watch a performance of dance and song by the local minority nationalities.

SUN: TIGER LEAPING GORGE

Take a scenic drive to the First Bend of the Yangtze River and visit one of the deepest gorges, Tiger Leaping Gorge. From the water edge to the snow capped peaks, the gorge measures 16km in length and reaches a height of 3,900 metres.

MON: LIJIANG & DALI
Travel by coach to Dali and stay two nights at the Landscape Hotel.

TUE: DALI
Today visit the three towering pagodas of San Ta Si then wander the cobblestone streets at the colourful markets at nearby Xizhou. See traditional ‘Bai’ architectural style houses and enjoy a ‘Bai Flavour’ lunch and local dance performance. This afternoon continue onto the exquisitely preserved town of Zhoucheng with its charming courtyard houses and laneways.

WED: DALI & KUNMING
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Kunming and stay two nights at the Grand Park Hotel.

THU: KUNMING
Travel by coach to the Stone Forest, a remarkable natural phenomenon of bizarrely-shaped limestone cliffs and peaks. Visit the fragrant and colourful Bird & Flower Market which, along with the well-kept old houses in its neighbourhood, is now protected under Kunming’s preservation plan for the Old Town Quarter.

Farewell China as you transfer to the airport for your overnight flight home.
