Why us?

Enriching lives through travel

The most trusted travel partners

At House of Travel, we’ve been enriching the lives of our customers and our people since 1987 when our first store opened in Timaru. Now the largest travel agency group in New Zealand with 64 stores from Kerikeri to Invercargill, our vision is to be the most trusted partner in travel, providing the highest quality personal service, with the best knowledge and relationships in the business to ensure our customers get not only great value, but they have their Best. Holidays. Ever! Our customers tend to agree; with 93% of customers who book with us rating us 5/5 – we’re proud of that!

Making it easy

Whatever your travel dreams – cruising the high seas; active adventures; cultural immersion; flop and drop escapism; small group camaraderie or chasing your passions we do it all! From a dreamy once in a lifetime luxe stay to value packed holidays on a budget we can help! If you see something you like with another travel company or direct with a travel supplier, bring it into us. We have great relationships with our travel providers and often we’ll get you a better deal or even a holiday better matched to your individual needs.

The most experienced team in travel taking care of small (and emergency) stuff so you don’t have too!

When you book with us you get a consultant who truly cares about you and your holiday and best of all if the unexpected happens your personal consultant is here for you – you are more than a booking reference number when you book with House of Travel. And you know you’re in safe hands with the most experienced team in the business - our team has an average of 14 years’ experience – there’s not much we don’t know or can’t fix!

The perfect holiday for you!

We’re all different and the perfect holiday means different things to everyone. Holidays are precious, the memories and the connections we build with loved ones while travelling are priceless. So, if you're looking for more than average; we’re happy to custom make your perfect itinerary.

Focus on value

Since House of Travel started our focus has been on ensuring that our customers get great value for money from their holidays. That means not only sourcing the best prices from our trusted travel providers and negotiating amazing, often exclusive deals for our customers but also ensuring not a moment of holiday time is wasted with things like bad connections, unreliable transfers, or disappointing experiences. In our opinion it’s not a great price unless it’s a great holiday as well!

Award winning - people first

No need to just take our word for it as New Zealand’s most awarded travel group we know we have something special to offer you. You only become New Zealand’s Best Place to Work if you have happy people who love what they do – planning your holidays! And you don’t take out the top spot from some the most iconic and beloved brands in New Zealand (with the utmost respect) in the National Customer Leadership Index without having customers who truly value what you do. We’re humble and our success is down to one thing; we put “people first” and believe our long-term business success is a direct result of never losing sight of this. Both the amazing customers we are privileged to serve, alongside our hugely talented and dedicated team. We’ve been “people first” since our founder Chris Paulsen first dreamed of House of Travel whilst jogging around Hagley Park.

We’re locally owned and connected to our communities

Our stores are owned in a 50/50 partnership between House of Travel Holdings Limited and a local owner operator. Most of our owner operators have grown up in the businesses they own starting their careers as travel consultants, and the communities they live in. We believe in developing great people and when you choose House of Travel you are supporting a New Zealand owned business with all our profits remaining in New Zealand rather than heading offshore to shareholders of publicly listed faceless entities.

We’re part of a much bigger success story!

House of Travel is our flagship brand in New Zealand, but we also have other award winning highly respected success stories in our group of companies. Orbit World Travel is the largest corporate travel company in New Zealand; Mix and Match and House of Travel online are firm favourites with New Zealand travellers seeking great deals on flights and the ability to compare flight combinations across airlines to nab the perfect combo. In Australia we have the National Travel Industry award winning TravelManagers; the largest network of home-based personal travel managers and HOOT Holidays specialising in value packed holidays to Asia and the South Pacific.

Everyone’s dream holiday is different.

Bucket lists, pinch-me moments, lifelong dreams. If the travel you’re dreaming about isn’t the off-the-rack, one-size-fits-all, package deal kind of travel, we should talk.
