Itinerary
Depart Johannesburg at 6.30am. Travelling across the Highveld before descending into the heart of KwaZulu Natal known for its rich culture and spectacular wildlife. Day one is a long travel day, but we enjoy three night stay in a lodge on a private nature reserve
Our time in Zululand combines wildlife viewing with a deep connection to the bushveld while the lodge provides a peaceful place to relax. Explore Hluhluwe Game Reserve on a morning game drive with lunch at one of the picnic sites along the river. The following morning, we set out on a guided bush walk. Along the way we may encounter some of the resident wildlife, including giraffe, that frequent this unique private nature reserve
Kosi Bay Nature Reserve is a remarkable wetland system of lakes, mangroves, and dune forests near the Indian Ocean. We explore the area by boat, with chances to swim and snorkel among shallow reefs, and learn about traditional fishing practices unique to this region. Overnight at a local lodge.
Crossing into Mozambique, we reach the laid-back coastal town of Ponta do Ouro. Here we join a dolphin research team on two ocean safaris, giving us the chance to snorkel, view whales and dolphins from the boat, and possibly swim with wild dolphins. This pristine stretch of coastline is a true highlight of the journey.
Heading north, we arrive in Mozambique’s vibrant capital, Maputo, set on a natural harbour. Known as the African Riviera, the city blends Portuguese and African cultures, which is reflected in its architecture, markets and cuisine. We explore landmarks on foot, and you can sample the excellent seafood in a local restaurant.
We drive through mango and cashew nut plantations enroute to the town of Inhambane for a three night stay on Mozambique’s beautiful coastline. Palm lined beaches, warm turquoise waters and a laid back atmosphere await us.
Inhambane has a rich history shaped by centuries of Indian Ocean trade. During our stay, we visit the historic town, including its 200 year old cathedral and lively fresh produce market.
We make our way down the coast to Chizavane a secluded fishing lodge perched on the coastal dunes with a magnificent view of the surrounding natural bush and expansive beach. For our last night on the beach, we enjoy a fish braai
Leaving the Indian Ocean coast, we travel through the Limpopo Transfrontier Park and enter Kruger National Park, South Africa. An icon of nature conservation, Kruger is big game country! Game drive to our accommodation from the Park Gate on the first day and morning and afternoon game drives on Day 13.
Our final morning in Kruger National Park offers one last game drive in the soft early light, a final chance to absorb the sights, sounds and stillness of the bush. Leaving the wilderness behind we begin the return journey to Johannesburg. Drop off at the airport at +/- 5.00pm. Tour officially ends at the hotel at 6.00pm.
