I just got back from an unforgettable adventure in the Kimberley region and let me tell you, it is truly a magical destination. This rugged and ancient land is like nowhere else I've ever been before. The rich red dust of the region will leave a lasting impression on you, grounding you in its beauty long after you've left.
Adventures in the Kimberley
One of the things that sets the Kimberley apart is the unique and awe-inspiring adventures that await you. I had the opportunity to take a helicopter ride over the World Heritage-listed Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park and it was absolutely thrilling. Feeling the world beneath me while soaring through the sky was an experience I'll never forget.
If you're more into water-based adventures, you have to experience the exhilaration of a boat cruise through the Horizontal Waterfalls or Garaanngaddim. And if you're up for a challenge, you can conquer the legendary 660-kilometre Gibb River Road in a four-wheel drive.
Connecting with Aboriginal culture
But for me, the most profound experiences in the Kimberley were the ones that connected me with the world's oldest living culture and traditional custodians of this land. I took an Aboriginal guided tour with the Traditional Owners of this Country and learned about their connection to the lands, waters and skies. Exploring ancient rock art galleries in remote places and learning about the different Aboriginal language groups was a true privilege.
And let me tell you, the Kimberley lets you be as adventurous or as laidback as you wish. You can stay in remote luxury retreats, authentic outback stations or camp out with Aboriginal custodians. You can hire a four-wheel drive, soar high on a scenic flight, hike, kayak or just lie back as you cruise through ancient waterways on a state-of-the-art vessel. This is a holiday destination where you can create the adventure of your dreams.
