AIRLINE REVIEW

QATAR AIRWAYS.

Great Southern Rail Tourism   By House of Travel

Qatar Airways is the flag carrier for, and largest airline in, the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar. The airline services a large number of international destinations from their hub city of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. Like airlines such as Emirates and Etihad, Qatar Airways has been embarking on a period of massive expansion and currently has a very modern fleet of over 170 Boeing and Airbus planes, and almost the same amount again on order! They won airline of the year by Skytrax in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

The Difference

  • Qatar Airways’ flight from Auckland to Doha is currently the longest in the world!
  • All business class seats have a built in massage system.
  • Qatar Airways is one of the few airlines that offers complimentary food on demand, meaning the snacks are available outside of normal meal service.
  • Qatar Airways cabin staff are consistently rated amongst the best in the world.
  • Onboard their A350, A380 and B787 aircraft, business class passengers have two screens! Great for multi tasking.
  • Qatar Airways passengers can embark on complimentary city tours of Doha while transiting through the city.

The Classes

BUSINESS CLASS In Business Class you’ll receive a larger seat which converts into a lie flat bed and features a built in massage system. Checked luggage allowance is one piece at 40 kilograms, cabin is two pieces at no more than 15 kilograms total.

Destinations

Doha and most major cities in Asia and Europe, as well as a dozen or so in Africa and North America.

The Hub

DOHA AIRPORT. Opened in 2014, Hamad International Airport is one of the most modern and advanced airports in the world. The airports website has an awesome feature where you can input your flight details and it’ll tell you how long it will take to clear customs/security etc (based on scheduled traffic for that day and time). The airport is also home to one of the largest airport retails precincts in the world and has a fantastic range of shops. Travellers with mobility problems should ask your House of Travel consultant to book airport assistance as the distances between some gates can be significant. All travellers must be aware that it’s illegal to bring alcohol and pork products into Qatar, but is ok if you’re just transferring to an onward flight. Free WiFi is available throughout the airport.
