Experience England

Experience England

story by: House of Travel

Mushy peas, warm beer and a Liverpool vs Arsenal game - they may not be what lure you to England in the first place, but they are exactly the types of experiences that will make your visit memorable.

There’s no getting away from it, the English are fond of some very unusual food - think jellied eels, bread and butter pudding and toad in the hole!  In recent years, celebrity foodies like Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein have led the charge in changing the way we think about English cuisine - it’s all about taking the freshest of local ingredients and using them in classic regional recipes.

The local eccentricities that have given England such a varied culinary landscape are also what makes it so diverse and a fascinating place to visit.  You may struggle to understand a West County accent to begin with but after an afternoon in a village pub washing down Cornish Pasties with local cider among friendly locals, you’ll soon chatting away like a local.

Geographically, England is incredibly diverse.  Their mountains are fantastic and while not as large as ours, they also have an array of rivers and forests that are more mature and quintessentially English. Spend a day exploring the Lake District or the Cotswolds and you’ll be stunned by the gorgeous scenery, or head to Bath and Devon for seaside splendour, then journey North to Yorkshire and see where the Grand old Duke of York really DID march his 10,000 men.

This is the country of our storybook youth and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into one of these stories, or the top of your monopoly board as you explore all that England has to offer.
