Commonly referred to as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the heart and soul of modern Vietnam and is both recapturing the glory of its past whilst moving rapidly into the 21st century. Stunning colonial architecture and historic landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral, Reunification Palace and the Central Post Office, stand proud of a remarkable history, whilst modern skyscrapers rising beside the traditional narrow alleyways, begin to transform the city. Divided into 24 districts, traffic chokes the tree line streets whilst the locals merely go about their daily business.
Districts one, three and five is where most of the action takes place with fine restaurants, rooftop bars, shops selling imported luxury goods and a recent surge of café culture. For those looking for a bargain, head to Ben Thanh Market along with Saigon Square. Home to the chilling yet captivating War Remnants Museum, a trip to the south is not complete without discovering the Cu Chi Tunnels, built and inhabited by Viet Cong.
Mekong Delta Tour - Escape Ho Chi Minh City for the day and travel by road to the Mekong Delta, known as the fruit bowl of Vietnam. On arrival near My Tho board a boat for a magical experience through some of the Mekong tributaries. Visit orchards and bonsai gardens and gain an insight into daily life of the river. You will get to sample an array of fruit and witness local home industries including rice paper making and sweet making with the opportunity to purchase some of the product.
A stop is made at a local restaurant for lunch before returning to the bustling city.
Ho Chi Minh City Cooking Class - Vietnamese cuisine is mouth-watering and unforgettable, no doubt leaving you yearning to indulge in the flavours back home. So if you are a passionate cook or simply curious, opt for a cooking class and enjoy covering five traditional Vietnamese dishes. Choose from a morning or afternoon class with set day menus. Learn about Vietnamese ingredients and how they are used together. You will receive recipes and at the end of the class you will sample the delights of your efforts. Note: A morning market visit can be included at an additional charge.
Cu Chi Tunnels - Travel by road to the Cu Chi Tunnels. On arrival watch an educational video outlining the history of the tunnels. The network included innumerable trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centres and kitchens. Walk through the grounds and through a tunnel to gain an insight and feel of what underground life in the American War must have been like. For those interested there is a rifle range where rounds can fired from an AK47 or M16 (additional charge payable direct).
Vespa Foodie Tour - This special ride is designed for the food lover at heart. Sit back, relax and be a passenger on the most famous scooter in the world. The advantage of a Vespa tour in the evening is being able to experience the nightlife of the city the way locals do. Sample a variety of seafood, local food and bars in a short amount of time. A food and beer expert is present during this tour and will introduce you to the most delicious food in the city.
