Worldly Me
The weekly roundup: 21 July 2017. British Airways safety video, French cabins, sushi spas and underwater wineries.

So, little fair world of ours, what have you been up to this week? From global trends to worldwide oddities, this is what made the headlines over the past seven days (give or take)...
New York Skyline

British Airways new celebrity safety video

IMITATION IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF FLATTERY

Oh. Well this is awkward. The kings of star-studded safety videos, Air New Zealand, might have competition. From the pommies no less. Gasp.

The British Airways brand are out to prove their worth, and it seems they've looked to little old NZ for inspiration. Check out their new safety video featuring an entire cast of British slebs. Even Sir Ian McKellen makes an appearance....AKA Gandalf. Of LOTR fame.

We're not saying a thing.

Owl cabins, Bordeaux
FREE ACCOMMODATION IN FRANCE
In a bid to encourage city dwellers to escape the concrete jungle and embrace the outdoors, adorable owl-designed cabins have been built in the Bordeaux region of France. And they're free to use.

Nicknamed Les Guetteurs (“the watchers”) the cabins cover three floors (and three owls), overlook the nearby wetlands and come equipped with basic sleeping amenities.

Here's a YouTube video to get you in the mood for owl glamping (we're  99% sure the experience isn't as sinister as the music)...

Sojo Spa Club, New York

THE NYC INFINITY POOL WITH SKYLINE VIEWS

Forget the Empire State Building, for the best skyline views of Manhattan, head to Sojo Spa Club. As the only NYC club you'll want to be a member of, this swanky day spa boasts nine outdoor pools and baths.

Inspired by Korean bath house culture, the treatments are vast, but it's the view from the spa's rooftop infinity pool that will really soothe your senses. Noticeably your eye gaze. Elevated 100 feet above the river, it absorbs the full splendour of NYC's iconic skyline.

Round off your spa sesh with lunch at The Mercer Kitchen; New York's A-list preferred dining venue. The city elite love it.

Tomoko Spa, Los Angeles

SUSHI AND SPA DATE ANYONE?
Not to be outdone by their NYC rivals, Los Angeles have also upped the spa ante with Tomoko Spa, a Japanese inspired bath house, with a distinctly, errr, fishy ending.

Once you've enjoyed your relaxing treatment, enjoy a post-spa sushi meal delivered from the city's famed sushi chain, Sugarfish. The perfect idea for date night, you get a good knead, and then a good feed.

Fancy a few more quirky LA ideas? This is what all Los Angeles visitors SHOULD do (but don't)...

Edivo Vina Winery, Croatia

THE WINERY UNDER THE SEA
Travellers who enjoy a spot of diving AND a good glass of wine will want to head to Croatia. Edivo Vina Winery have opened the country's first underwater winery, in Drače, on the Pelješac Peninsula.

Just an hour north of Dubrovnik, visitors are encouraged to don a wetsuit and join experienced divers to explore the underwater wine odyssey. Stored in clay jugs known as amphorae, and placed under the sea for up to two years, it's the salty sea water which adds to the wine's earthy pinewood aromas. Well I never.

Time to slip into a wetsuit and sip on a vino, don't you think? Hello Croatia!
