If you are after an authentic Japanese experience and powder Myoko Kogen could be the choice for you. One of Japan's best-hidden secret, Myoko is relatively untouched by the Western market and is the perfect place for those seeking powder. Yet another fabulous Japanese resort that receives an annual snowfall of 13m (42ft) and definitely no shortage of snow. A free-riders paradise with plenty of tree skiing.
After a day on the mountain and mandatory during your stay at Myoko Kogen is a visit to an onsen or natural hot springs. There are several in the hotels or visit one of Myoko Kogen's seven hot springs Akakura Onsen, Shin-Akakura Onsen, Ikenotaira Onsen, Myoko Onsen, Suginosawa Onsen, Tsubame Onsen, and Seki Onsen.

Situated at Akakura Ski Resort perched 1000 metres on the slopes where you can ski in ski out. Akakura is the first European-style ski resort in Japan. The hotel has 60 spacious rooms, two mineral hot springs, and panoramic views.

If you have skied or boarded a bit and you want to get better at riding powder then a trip to Seki Onsen on a powder day is a great introduction with a guide who will show you how to ski or ride the deep stuff.

It is still possible to do a self-guided day trip to visit the Jigokudani Snow Monkeys. You will need to catch a train from Myoko Kogen to Nagano and then take a bus or taxi. Ideas of places to visit are Zenkoji Temple, Matsumoto Castle, and Dai-o Wasabi Farm.
