Lonely is the last way you want to feel on your holiday.
House of Travel across the Waikato is creating a register of people interested in exploring the world with like-minded solo travellers. Consultant Angela Taverner is putting together a database covering House of Travel branches in Hamilton City, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Matamata and Morrinsville. Those with similar tastes and interests in international travel will be matched and tour options then evaluated.
"Sometimes a holiday can be a wonderful chance to escape alone with your own thoughts", said Angela. "Other times there is nothing better than sharing your experiences with a friend or new acquaintance. We want to give our baby boomers who can’t get the travel bug out of their systems an opportunity to connect, discuss and plan their travel adventures.”
Travel options for seniors are endless, says Angela, covering everything from culinary and botanical tours, to adventure travel, cruises, concerts, events, sports, spas, shopping, beaches and museums. She says small group tours and escorted journeys are available for senior solo travellers. This can minimise or avoid single supplement costs.
“We know that across the Waikato there are a large number of seniors with similar interests in travel,” says Angela.
After more than a decade living overseas and having travelled large parts of the world along some of the most popular (and some un-popular) routes, I've discovered a love for interesting people and places; especially those 'off the beaten track'.

After 38 years in the industry do you think I would still be here if I didn’t love with a passion what I do. Travel is an improvement to your education of life, whether from another culture, what you are viewing or taking in an entire experience.
I am excited to be back in the Industry. My trips have taken me to many great destinations & left me with memories I will cherish forever. I am looking forward to been apart of creating fantastic travel memories & bringing your holiday dreams to life.
I love to travel. My advice to you is to travel as much as possible when you can, while you can – you won’t regret it !
From sipping tea in the Burj Al Arab to struggling to catch my breath at Everest Base Camp I feel truly fortunate for all the travel experiences I’ve had. Now, after 8 years of living and working overseas, I’m excited to turn my passion into a career.
“Why not a cruise for your next relaxing holiday or stopover? you only have to unpack once.”
