Share your travel experiences

Lonely is the last way you want to feel on your holiday. House of Travel across the Waikato is creating a register of people interested in exploring the world with like-minded solo travellers.

Consultant Angela Taverner is putting together a database covering House of Travel branches in Hamilton City, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Matamata and Morrinsville.  Those with similar tastes and interests in international travel will be matched and tour options then evaluated.

Sometimes a holiday can be a wonderful chance to escape alone with your own thoughts, said Angela. Other times there is nothing better than sharing your experiences with a friend or new acquaintance. “We want to give our baby boomers who can’t get the travel bug out of their systems an opportunity to connect, discuss and plan their travel adventures.”

Travel options for seniors are endless, says Angela, covering everything from culinary and botanical tours, to adventure travel, cruises, concerts, events, sports, spas, shopping, beaches and museums.

She says small group tours and escorted journeys are available for senior solo travellers. This can minimise or avoid single supplement costs. “We know that across the Waikato there are a large number of seniors with similar interests in travel,” says Angela.

Did you know…
• 38% of all claims occur before travel has even begun; commonly credit card insurance doesn't start until travel does! Allianz offers full cover from the day the policy is issued, full stop. Once the policy is issued & a client develops a new medical symptom that may prevent travel – you  WILL NOT be asked to represent for a new assessment. Who else does that?

• Over 50% of all medical evacuations back to NZ originate from the South Pacific. With lower quality hospitals available in some of these destinations you NEED assistance from the complete provider –Allianz Global Assistance - not just an insurer (who contract out (medi evacs)! As the world’s leading emergency assistance provider Allianz is a great choice and your customers are in the best hands.

• 12% of all claims are for lost property including passports; you need travel insurance regardless of destination.

• With floods , fires and ash clouds all affecting travel to Australia in recent times it is important to ensure you are protected, and with flights typically being non-refundable they need to be covered from when they pay for trip.

• The average cost for an ambulance in Australia is $150 per kilometre, the ‘so called’ reciprocal agreements won’t cover this, nor will it cover the cost of getting you back to NZ.
