Where I've Been

Favourite Holidays

European River Cruise - 2010

In my opinion river cruising in Europe is a great way to have a holiday. You can sit back and watch the world go by or you take advantage of the many optional daily tours that are included in the cruise package and the big plus is you only have to unpack once. The cruise I did was late November and every town we stopped at had their Christmas markets running and with snow on top of that made it a real winter wonderland.
With beer and wine included with lunch and dinner and champagne with breakfast extra costs are very minimal. I travelled with APT on one of their Concerto class ships and found there was no need to upgrade above category P on Cello deck as these cabins are the largest onboard without going up to the Owners Suite. Each evening you are given a program for the following day which includes information on the area you are travelling through, weather forecast and even the cocktail of the day.

Melbourne, Australia - 2010

Not much I can say about Jersey Boys other than is was a great show and for the short time we were in Melbourne it was enough for my wife to do damage to the credit card in the shops. One thing that we did make use of was the free tram and bus that runs round the central city.

Winchester, England - 2006

We went to Winchester for 3 weeks as our son won a cricket scholarship to spend a term at Winchester College during his last year at Timaru Boys High School. When we weren’t watching cricket which was 2 days a week, we hired a car and did day trips around the area. A couple of interesting trips we did was to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, a must for all petrol heads and a day to Cowes on the Isle of Wight where we went to Osborne House.

We spent the last 2 nights of our holiday in London with a cousin and did a tour of Lords cricket ground, went to Harrods and went to a concert in Hyde Park performed by members of Pink Floyd.
