I was lucky enough to win a River Cruise with Croisi last year for 7 days on a European river of my choice... so after much deliberation we, as a family decided on a trip to Europe.
We started with a couple of nights in LA and just went to Universal Studios. Off to London and enjoy the sights here. We loved the Tower of London and saw Charlie & the Chocolate Factory in Convent garden - awesome show !
Off to Paris for a couple of nights.. great hotel so close to the Notre Dame and of course we had to get up the Eiffel Tower - a real highlight for our son! A short train took up to the centre of France where we joined our river cruise for the next 7 nights heading down the Rhone to meet the Med. Some highlights en route were Lyon (like a mini Paris), Arles (like a mini Rome!) and Avignon - all fantastic places to visit. A quick flight over to Rome and a couple of nights here exploring the ancient ruins. A rental took us up into Tuscany where we meet some friends and rented an amazing villa just near San Gimignano - wow what an awesome thing to do. Recommend for everyone and a great way to live like a local. A quick stop in Milan and Tokyo on the way home. Phew it was a great trip !
School holidays in 2015 took us over to the Sunshine and Gold Coasts. September is a great time to head over this way - you get great weather (although not quite warm enough in the ocean for me!), see the whales frolicking just not far off the beach and just generally chill out! We stayed in a great beach apartment just south of Noosa which was fantastic. Self catering so we shopped up a storm and cooked in a lot. The Sunshine Coast has a lot to see and do - Eumundi Markets, Noosa, Fraser Island (just a bit north) and not to forget the Aussie Zoo. Plus it's a bit more laid back than the Gold Coast. However, we spent a few nights in Broadbeach and loved it there as well. Nice vibe, great beach and of course a bit of retail therapy at Pacific Fair!
As a family we decided to try an Ocean cruise with P&O. Our cruise departed from Brisbane for 7 nights and we sailed around Noumea and Vanuatu. I wasn't really 100% sure if cruising was for us but I have to say we LOVED IT and I couldn't really fault P&O. Our 7 year old son had a great time flitting between the kids club and the pools and other areas on board the ship. There really is something for everyone and there were all walks of life on board from young couples, family groups and a number of older people. So nice and varied. We thought the food was excellent and their "Pantry" offers something for everyone's tastes. We had purchased the premium drinks package which was great and managed to enjoy a number of cocktails on board! The staff really know how to entertain you and they were all supremely professional as well. So give cruising a go - you'll be a convert !!
In February we took a family holiday to Fiji. We stayed at the new Marriott Momi Bay which is a lovely 5* resort located about 45mins out of Nadi town. A great "flop and drop" hotel and the rooms and facilities are really lovely. A little bit isolated so it is definately a place to relax rather than be busy...
However, after this we took a Captain Cook 4 night cruise of the the Yasawa Islands. This was a FANTASTIC experience and one I would recommend to couples and families alike. The staff were amazing, the food brilliant and consistantly yummy. This cruise is a great way to see the "real" Fiji and travel around the stunning Yasawa Islands. We did a lot of snorkelling and swimming and the water was clear and warm with lots of fish to see. We also got to visit a local school and village which was a great cultural experience and a bit humbling for us all. Especially good if you're taking kids to see how lucky they have it!!
