Nepal 2019

This year our family trip was to Nepal.   For Stu & I this was a return to a country we love - 20 years on it was time to return with the girls now aged 17 & 18.  Perfect ages I felt to tackle a trek in this unique country and it had always been an ambition to take them to Nepal when the time was right.

Nepal is incredibly beautiful with the most majestic mountains,  the biggest rivers to cross on swing bridges and dotted with tiny traditional villages.   The Himalayas are truly the true roof of the world and as such do provide an amazing trekking experience you can’t get anywhere else.   It would be fair to say it is not a relaxing holiday destination and it does require a certain level of fitness but if you are up for a trek/tramp – this is the place to go.

Over the 15 days of our trek we covered 170 kms including a beautiful day for our Mountain Pass crossing at just over 5000 metres in altitude  - check out the photo (and to put it into context Mt Cook is 3700 metres).  It was with an incredible sense of achievement that we completed this and I believe something we & the girls will remember forever.  I do believe that is what travelling should be about – making memories that live on.

Cambodia 2019

I was also lucky enough this year to get a short winter trip away
on a luxury Scenic River Cruise from Cambodia to Vietnam with a small select
group of agents.

Cambodia was a new destination for me and I took an extra couple
of day to explore Siem Reap and the amazing Angkor Wat Temples – watching the sun rise over the temples was a magical experience.   We didn’t get the best of sunrises sadly – sometimes the light is amazing but it was still serene experience.

Cambodia is a delight to visit and apart from the major sites like Angkor Wat it is not overrun by tourists yet.

After my time in Siem Reap I had 7 days aboard the Scenic Spirit
Riverboat from Siem Reap to Saigon – it is super flash, with amazing staff
& service and fabulous food.   Scenic Cruises are fully inclusive
and all shore excursions are included, and some of these are quite unique.  My personal favorites were visiting a temple and feeding the young monks their
daily rice and a village eco tour where we were shown around by the happy young children in the village who were delighted to show us their home &
school.   I can thoroughly recommend Scenic if you love luxury this
is the way to go!
