China / Mongolia / Russia by Train...Bucket list stuff!
Courtesy of Sundowners Overland, who are experts in this part of he world, I got to ride the rails in these three fascinating countries.
There were so many highlights that I can't do them justice in this forum!
The three that come to mind most quickly are the Great Wall in Beijing ( even though I had been before at a differnt location...) . The Terelj National park just outside Ulaanbaatar ..for the chance to to stay in a Ger ( yurt) and lastly Lake Baikal. The stunning, deepest freshwater lake in the world, in the enigma of a country that is Mother Russia.
Come in for chat if you interested in any of these awesome dstinations.
I was fortunate enough to be able to do '"flying visit" to Samoa with my wife. It was my second visit ( the previous one being about 5 yrs ago), but the first for my wife. It was really interesting to see the country through her first timer eyes...versus my chance to see the changes from last time.
We could only get go for four nights because of leave issues for my wife, but was still absolutely worth going even for this short amount of time!
Our first night was at the Sheraton Aggie Grey Resort ( which is beachside near to the Airport), then our second night was at the sister property the Sheraton Agggie Grey Hotel & Spa in central Apia. The last two nights we had the joy of staying at the Seabreeze Resort on the stunning south coast of the Island of Upolu.
We rented a small car for the duration of our stay, as driving is pretty relaxed
exprience in Samoa ( as the open road speed limt is only 55 kph). We hadn't intended to, but ended up basically circumnavigating the whole island because it was so enjoyable and easy to do. The stunning waterfalls, the pretty villages and the stunning beach at Lolomanu were the highlights.
So let me know if you have any questions on Samoa, and I'll do my best to answer them.
Who could resist the invitation to go on a Globus Tour with that name!
Certainly not me....so off I went. This Tour gateways on arriving Seattle ( Washington) and departing Portland ( Oregon). It would have been more than worthwhile just to have gone to see these two major Northwest cities, and nothing else. However the stunning Oregon Coast and then the stark High Desert were amazingly good contrasts to those two city experiences.
The food, the beer ( and wine) and cultural expriences all rounded this into one fantastic trip.
So if you're thinking of heading to the Pacific Northwest, get in contact with me so I can pass on some detailed pointers to you.
