Camino de Santoago
The Camino Frances – September – October 2015
The Camino Frances is a journey of 800kms and runs between St Jean Pied de Port on the western edge of France and the west of Spain in Santiago de Compostella. This was an item on my bucket list and overall was an amazing experience through the various regions of Spain. This pilgrimage was completed over 42 days with 36 days of walking and 6 days where we enjoyed the sites and history of many of the larger cities in Spain such as Pamplona, Leon and Burgos.
Our journey took my husband and I over the Pyrenees from France into Spain and along the way, we experienced the friendships of other pilgrims from around the world, the food, wine and culture of the various regions, the small towns we walked through and the amazing history of this country – including some amazing churches and cathedrals.
Our best highlight was the final day walking into the Praza Obradoira and the magnificent Cathedral de Santiago and later that night attending Mass during which the Botafumiere requiring six monks to pull the ropes, swung across and incensed the old historic arches of this cathedral – an emotional experience after the long journey and one not to be missed!
