Camino de Santoago

The Camino Frances – September – October 2015

The Camino Frances is a journey of 800kms and runs between St Jean Pied de Port on the western edge of France and the west of Spain in Santiago de Compostella. This was an item on my bucket list and overall was an amazing experience through the various regions of Spain. This pilgrimage was completed over 42 days with 36 days of walking and 6 days where we enjoyed the sites and history of many of the larger cities in Spain such as Pamplona, Leon and Burgos.

Our journey took my husband and I over the Pyrenees from France into Spain and along the way, we experienced the friendships of other pilgrims from around the world, the food, wine and culture of the various regions, the small towns we walked through and the amazing history of this country – including some amazing churches and cathedrals.

Our best highlight was the final day walking into the Praza Obradoira and the magnificent Cathedral de Santiago and later that night attending Mass during which the Botafumiere requiring six monks to pull the ropes, swung across and incensed the old historic arches of this cathedral – an emotional experience after the long journey and one not to be missed!

Israel & Jordan - January 2013

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to go to Israel and Jordan. To visit such places as Petra , Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. We had booked a 12 night tour which covered all the major sights. Each day was so full of highlights , there really is too many to mention. But floating in the dead sea , visiting the wailing wall and watching friends being baptised in the Jordan were just a few of the highlights. Also visiting the historic sights where Jesus once walked was also really special. Visiting the church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and seeing the streets where he carried the cross was amazing. It is a destination I will DEFINITELY go back to , but this time stay even longer.

Caribbean Cruise - November 2012

Recently my husband and I trained so we could participate in the New York Marathon. Sadly due to a hurricane it had to be cancelled but we have already booked our cruise in the Caribbean which was to be a reward for all the hard training. We were very excited as we boarded the Oasis of the Seas , the largest ship in the world carrying over 5000 passengers. We had an absolute ball for the entire week. The entertainment was world class , the restaurants and bard were fabulous and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool drinking exotic cocktails. Each morning we did do a small run around the deck or visit the gym. That way we did not feel so guilty when went to yet another restaurant. A really fabulous weeks holiday

Austria - September 2010

This year my husband and I choose to do a self guided cycling trip for 7 nights in Austria. It was a little daunting at first but once we started it was really easy as all the cycle paths were very well marked and plenty of signs leading us to our next destination. The scenery was varies from green rolling hills , stunning lakes , quaint villages and of course the beautiful and mighty Danube. We meet people from all over the world and some fabulous experiences like visiting the amazing monastery at Melk and climbing height into the saly  mountains at Haalstaat. It is amazing what you see from a bike rather than a car or bus. Ending at Vienna for a few days was also a highlight.
