Where I've Been

Favourite Holidays

Christmas Markets on the Danube

River cruising from Vienna to Nuremberg in December was amazing.
Holidaying in the cold when it is summer at home isn't for everyone, but what an experience I had, mulled wine, Christmas markets, castles, cold crisp air and the tranquility of a river cruise, magical.
I was waiting for snow and didn't see any until I had checked in at Nuremberg airport for my flight to Barcelona, couldn't do much about touching that from my boarding gate!
River cruising is quite different from ocean cruising and I would love to do more, the small ship experience is something else.

I wasn't too excited to go to Russia but it was a bucket list destination for my partner, I fell in love with Moscow in particular and would love to go back and explore more of the country.
I loved the amazing architecture, friendly people and found it easy to get around.
We rode the overnight Red Arrow Train between Moscow and St Petersburg, famous for shuttling the communist elite between Leningrad and Moscow in Soviet times but still hugely popular today.
St Basil's Cathedral in Moscow's Red Square, built by Ivan the Terrible is very impressive as is the Church of the Savior on Blood in St Petersburg.
Take me back!

I was most fortunate to be accepted on a 10 day Canada experience for work, whilst it was some 10 years ago it is still one of my favourite travel memories.
My personal highlights are Vancouver Island, Banff, Lake Louise and the VIA rail through the Rockies.
Walking the shores of Lake Louise first thing in the morning before kayaking out to the middle of the ake to take in the surrounds was jaw dropping gorgeous.
I am still to tick off the Inside Passage cruise to Alaska!
