Favourite Holidays

Cambodia - May, 2008

The equal of Machu Pichu, the Pyramids or any other wonders of the world, Angkor Wat will hold you in its spell. The enormous temple and city complex of Angkor was only rediscovered in the Cambodian jungle in the mid 1800’s and has only in the last 10 years or so really opened up to visitors.

Canadian Rockies - October, 1995 & OCT 2014

I will go there any day – Autumn colours, stunning glaciers, and wild life including  grizzly bears, Lake Louise..  ..
I had another opportunity to travel again to this beautiful part of the world... British Columbia ... Its Wildly Charming ... & renowned for unmatched natural beauty

Scotland - October, 1999

The Northern Highlands, Rough landscapes/lakes and old castles - Whisky tasting.

Provonce NOV 2013

Avignon city is a UNESCO world heritage site – I visited the Palais des Papes. Just spend 3 hours walking around and was amazed in the history of middle ages and the building of the monument,  and the daily lives of the pontifical and other figures who occupied the palace.
Nimes- reading through material on Wikipedia –it goes back 4000-2000 BC.
But it was Augustus Caesar who made this into Roman Colony –It was during his time Nimes was prosperous..
Train from Avignon Centre station – takes about 45 minutes. The Tourist Information office is about 5 minutes from the station. I got all the maps & guide booklets I needed – the staff were very helpful and spoke English.
My first stop was Roman amphitheatre- it dates back to 1st or the 2nd Century its still one of best preserved Roman Arena in that part of the world. Sitting down on one of the long seats & looking back in history that we only read in books – how this amphitheatre was used for entertainment (barbaric) –men fighting ferocious beast, execution of prisoners, & the famous gladiators fights. It’s still used for concerts and bull fights.
2nd stop : Jardins de la Fontaine (Gardens of the Fountain)- The French have done a great job to preserve these old roman ruins – it’s now a public park – there is a temple of Diana in the same park.  I climbed the nearby Mount Cavalier to get to “Tour Magne” (Magne Tower)- you get a great view of Nimes from the top of the Tower which is about 17-18 Metre high on top of Mount Cavalier. .3rd stop; Maison Carrée;  It was originally built in 16BC- A roman temple and it had been reconstructed many times- It had been used as church, government offices and now its used to show a  3D 22 minutes film shown daily –it takes you back in history of old Nimes during Romans rule
