Where I've Been

Favourite Holidays

RHINE RIVER CRUISE (Aug 2017)

TAUCK River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam - my highlights were the beautiful town of Strasbourg and the detour along the Moselle River which is all pretty villages and vineyards

CHENGDU (June 2017)

Sichuan Airlines now fly direct to Chengdu - home of the Panda.  It is in a fertile valley surrounded by mountains and rivers

JAPAN (Feb 2017)

Travelled from Tokyo via Kanazawa to Kyoto on the high speed trains.
Tokyo is busy and vibrant, Kyoto is relaxed and easy to walk around, Hiroshima is sad and moving
Highlight was seeing the Snow Monkeys escaping the cold in their thermal pool

TAHITI (May 2016)

Cruising is a fabulous way to see the best of the Society Islands of Tahiti.  This photo is moored off Taha'a Resort with Bora Bora in the background

BORNEO (May 2015)

Borneo was a delightful surprise of interesting and abundant wildlife together with great snorkelling, white sand beaches and luxury resorts

TONGA (Aug 2015)

A visit to Tonga is an authentic South Pacific experience - visit the markets, attend a church service on Sunday.  Highlights are the "fishing pigs", dramatic blow holes and swimming with humpback whales in clear blue water

YASAWA ISLANDS (Nov 2015)

Get away from the Madding Crowd on one the remote islands with white sand and clear blue water.  Highlight was swimming with reef sharks at Barefoot Kuata Island - I want to return to swim with Manta rays in August one year

VANCOUVER ISLAND Butchart Gardens (Sep 2015)

Is a bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort

VICTORIA (Sep 2015)

Recommend using a sea plane in at least one direction as is so much quicker than the ferry.  Seals, Sea Otters and Orcas are the local wildlife.

VANCOUVER (Sep 2015)

A modern cosmopolitan city that is easy and safe to walk around

EAST AFRICA (2014)

I was lucky enough to fulfil a childhood dream of visiting Kenya and Tanzania.  The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most magical places on earth I have ever seen and turning a corner to find ourselves in the middle of the wildebeest migration is something I will never forget

OREGON (Aug 2013)

I am not a big drinker - but its hard to avoid the wide variety of craft beer on offer - great coffee too!  Much of the West Coast of Oregon is very similar to NZ - with lakes, mountains, vineyards and beaches.  Then you cross the Cascade Mountains and you are in the Wild West Desert

NIUE (Jul 2013)

Niue is totally unique and different to every other Pacific Island.  Crystal clear waters are fantastic for snorkelling and diving.  Highlight was swimming with Dolphins and Sea Snakes (really)
Recommend pre-booking your rental car as there is no public transport and pre-booking snorkelling tours in high season

CAPETOWN (Mar 2013)

The Waterfront area of Capetown is a fantastic place to wander, shop and people watch

CAPEPOINT (Mar 2013)

A day trip along Cape Point is a must - dramatic scenery en-route to the Cape of Good Hope and lots of wildlife along the way - including seal colonies, ostrich and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach

KRUGER South Africa (Mar 2013)

The magic of Kruger is that you get up close and personal with the wildlife and then return to a luxury lodge to enjoy the fabulous food and accommodation
