Where I've Been

Favourite Holidays

Having dreamed of going to Peru since I was a child, I had high expectations for my visit but it managed to exceed them all. I would highly recommend this amazing and incredibly diverse country to anyone and everyone. From the coastal capital of Lima with it's colonial center to one of the world's deepest canyons, the Colca Canyon, just out of Arequipa. Then of course there is the beautiful Cusco, ancient capital of the Incan Empire and the breath-taking Machu Picchu. I will be back!

Skellig Michael, Republic of Ireland

Climbing over 600 steps up what feels like a vertical cliff, each one carefully placed over 900 years ago just blew my mind. To be fair, Ireland as a whole was a special discovery. Skellig Michael is not quite rock, not quite island and explodes out of the ocean just off the coast of the Ring of Kerry in southern Ireland. While the views are incredible on sunny days, the misty, drizzly, rainy days I think are even more dramatic and moody. This place will blow your mind and steal your breath (and not just because of the walking)!

Colonia, Uruguay

I had five days in Buenos Aires and thought it would be a great idea to hop on the ferry and visit Colonia del Sacramento. Strolling the cobbled streets and hearing the often hilarious tales of the way this place began was well worth it. The eclectic mix of Portuguese, Spanish and local influence created an ambience similar to crossing Arrowtown, NZ with Provence, France. The local craft markets are quaint, the cafes have good food and are all lined up with tables and chairs spilling into the streets, and the atmosphere is a humming, happy buzz.

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul was nothing like I expected. It exceeded every expectation I had. Stunning in it's unique beauty, rich in it's history, and vibrant in it's culture, it was a true delight. From the busy Bosphorus to the glorious Grand Bazaar, everywhere I looked a new sight met my eyes and my nose caught the smell of something delicious. Visiting the Blue Mosque was incredible. After walking through the door I nearly dropped to my knees in awe of the artistry and craftsmanship that created such and astoundingly beautiful space. And I had never felt so clean as I did after a traditional Turkish bath, unique experience as it was. It is definitely one of my top spots to revisit!
