HOT Bucket List:
Camino de Santiago

A unique and unforgettable journey that sees Pilgrims come from all over the world to walk the ancient trails across Europe to Santiago de Compostela in the North West of Spain. The most famous route is “The French Way”, 800km of lovely scenery, history, quaint villages ending at the stunning cathedral where St James is believed to be buried. The ways are divided into stages and you can choose to do all or just one or two.

4 reasons to put this experience on your Bucket List:

HOT Bucket iconFood along the way – enjoy lively tapas bars, La Rioja vineyards (go in late September and celebrate the Rioja Grape Harvest Festival), seafood treats along the Coastal Route, soft creamy cheese in the tiny mountain village of O Cebreiro (there’s a gastronomy festival in April).
HOT Bucket icon Historic & spiritual wonderment – you’re walking in the footsteps of the past, cross the River Agra over an 11th century bridge and wander through quaint medieval alleys, ruins of Clavijo Castle, 12th century medieval towns litter the Camino, Baroque churches and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Santiago Cathedral.
HOT Bucket icon Phenomenal scenery – take in awesome views of the Pyrenees, rivers running down to coastal towns, cliffs along the oceanside, peaceful tracks through rolling farmland, olive groves and vineyards, and rustic, white-washed Spanish towns.
HOT Bucket icon You get a certificate! – make sure you get your ‘Pilgrim Passport’ and get it stamped along the way, walk at least 100km (or cycle 200km) to Santiago de Compostela and you’ll receive an authentic certificate written in Latin. Originally these were given to pilgrims to show they had repented their sins.
