Day 1: Alice Springs
Surrounded by red dirt and hauntingly beautiful mountain ranges lies Alice Springs – the beating heart of Australia’s Red Centre. Take a helicopter ride over the West MacDonnell Ranges, discover Aboriginal art or see the sunrise or sunset over Kata Tjuta.
Day 2: Alice Springs-Tennant Creek (508km)
From Alice Springs continue the journey north towards Tennant Creek. Stop at the Devils Marbles on the way (96 kilometres south of Tenant Creek). These rocks are believed by the Warmungu Aboriginal people to be the fossilised eggs of the Rainbow Serpent.
Day 3: Tennant Creek-Katherine (673km)
Long drive today! Travel north to Daly Waters and Mataranka. There are
thermal springs at Mataranka, a good spot to stop and relax.
Day 4: Katherine – Kakadu National Park (310km)
Travel to Katherine Gorge for a cruise through the gorge this morning. Visit the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre and then travel on to Kakadu National Park.
Day 5: Kakadu National Park
Discover Aboriginal rock art up to 20,000 years old, hike to the top of the
rugged escarpments or cruise the wetlands past water lilies and waterfalls.
Day 6: Kakadu National Park – Darwin (210km)
Before you depart for Darwin, why not book a cruise on the Adelaide River
to see the jumping crocodiles. Leisurely make your way back to Darwin.
