HOT Bucket List:
Biking the Golden Gate Bridge

When you picture San Francisco, images of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge will generally be the first thing that pops into your mind. Renting a bike and riding across this bridge is the best way to appreciate it.
We recommend hiring a bike from the Fisherman’s Wharf area, that way you don’t have to navigate the San Francisco traffic before getting to the bridge. To bike across the bridge it should take you anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on your level of fitness and how often you stop. The bridge does offer great views of San Francisco Bay, but the best views are at the opposite end of the bridge where you can also get the bridge in your photos!
Over the summer months the bridge can also be really busy so head out early and on a weekday vs weekend to avoid the crowds. Don’t forget to layer your clothing! Even on the sunniest and warmest days, the wind on the bridge can be cold.

3 reasons to put this experience on your Bucket List:
HOT Bucket icon A sense of achievement completing a bike across one of the most famous bridges in the world.
HOT Bucket icon Spectacular views and photo opportunities across San Francisco Bay back to the city.
HOT Bucket icon Make a day of it and after you’ve biked the bridge, continue to Sausalito for some lunch and a stroll before catching the ferry back. If you do this it should take you about two and a half hours at a leisurely pace from Fisherman’s Wharf.
How to experience it
You can take a guided tour where your guide will tell you all about San Francisco and will help you navigate through the people on crowded days. Or hire a bike and explore on your own, at your own pace.
Manual bike vs electric bike? As there are a number of hills on the way to the bridge, some people opt for an electric bike to give them a bit of a helping hand. If you’re not an avid biker, going electric will make it all the more easy to get to and from the bridge.
Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito Bike Tour
Enjoy a guided bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge from the city to the waterfront town of Sausalito. Ride from Fisherman’s Wharf, stop at Fort Point and Vista Point for photo ops of the bridge and San Francisco Bay. The guided tour ends in Sausalito, where you are free to bike more on your own and return to the city at your leisure (either bike back or take the ferry). This tour includes use of the bike for the full day.
