Plunging more than a kilometre down into the Arizona desert, the Grand Canyon has been carved out by the Colorado River for the past six million years – and that carving continues today, with the river still chipping away at all that red-orange-pink rock. The scale of the Grand Canyon is vast, and difficult to comprehend.
You can easily access the South Rim and West Rim of the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. The South Rim is the most popular (and touristy) part of Grand Canyon National Park and head to Grand Canyon Village for spectacular views and to take mule rides to the canyon floor.
The West Rim is only a 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas and is not as commercialised as the South Rim. This is where you’re find the famous Grand Canyon SKYWALK which is a glass bottom walkway over the canyon – not for the faint hearted! At the West Rim there’s also the option to land on the canyon floor on many helicopter tours.
The North Rim is the least visited area and easiest to access from Flagstaff, Arizona. The landscape there is quite different, with crisper air (North Rim is at a higher altitude) and impressive forest.
3 reasons to put this experience on your Bucket List:
Take a scenic airplane or helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon to best appreciate its scale, which can be difficult to comprehend.
Enjoy a champagne picnic on the canyon floor whilst looking up at the towering cliffs above and listening to the mighty Colorado River running beside you.
Take a walk out over the canyon on the glass floored SKYWALK or float through it on a raft on the Colorado River.
Descend, land and walk the canyon floor. Travel in a state of the art helicopter and touch down by the banks of the Colorado River where you’ll enjoy a picnic. Ask about adding on the Skywalk or tour over the Strip on your return to Las Vegas.
