Itinerary
DAY 1    ARRIVE DUNEDIN
Spend the day exploring the city. Dunedin is a heritage city with a youthful vibe and many grand examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture, including New Zealand’s only castle, Larnach Castle. Nearby, the Otago Peninsula is a natural haven for rare coastal wildlife like penguins, albatross, seals and sea lions.

DAY 2    DUNEDIN TO THE CATLINS
Begin your journey along the Southern Scenic Route towards The Catlins, the most unsung of the South Island regions. Here you will see waterfalls including the triple tiered Purakaunui Falls. This incredible coastline is also home to the World’s rarest penguins, most endangered sea lions and smallest dolphins. The spectacular spur at Nugget Point with its lighthouse perched on a panoramic platform has sensational views.

DAY 3    THE CATLINS TO STEWART ISLAND
Continue along the Southern Scenic Route towards Bluff. Stop in Invercargill and visit the Bill Richardson Transport World.
Don't miss the photo opportunity at Stirling Point in Bluff - a bright yellow signpost here signifies the bottom of the mainland and shows distances to the South Pole and other parts of the world. Catch the ferry from Bluff to Stewart Island where you will spend the next two nights.

DAY 4    STEWART ISLAND
Discover Stewart Island from the water on the Ulva Island Explorer Tour. Enjoy a leisurely cruise of beautiful Paterson Inlet and visit Ulva Island - an internationally acclaimed open wildlife sanctuary. During the guided walk (45 mins) with our nature guide, see native bird life and plants flourishing in a predator-free environment. Though now rare on the mainland, the inquisitive flightless weka thrives and is usually encountered.
Following your visit to Ulva Island, discover hidden coves and unspoilt beaches as you cruise further into Paterson Inlet to view the historic Whalers’ Base at Prices Inlet. Our skipper provides an interesting commentary. While on board, keep a lookout for fur seals, penguins and other wildlife, as sightings are common.

DAY 5    STEWART ISLAND TO TE ANAU
Known as the ‘gateway to the fiords’ Te Anau, is the perfect base to visit the Milford or Doubtful Sound. Add on a day trip to the breath-taking Doubtful Sound, the deepest South Island fiord. This fiord is rich in flora and fauna, New Zealand Fur Seals and Fiordland Crested Penguins can be seen on many of the small islets at the entrance of the fiord.
Or opt for the Milford Sound, where plunging cliffs and raging waterfalls meet dark waters. Milford Sound is remarkable in any weather.

DAY 6    TE ANAU TO QUEENSTOWN
The journey from Te Anau to Queenstown is spectacular, with lake and mountain views unfolding as you skirt Lake Wakatipu beneath the towering Remarkables.
Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s most exciting destinations. Surrounded by mountains, positioned on the edge of a lake, Queenstown is a hub of adventure, full of adrenaline and fun.

DAY 7    DEPART QUEENSTOWN
Visit any last-minute attractions before departing Queenstown. Options include an exhilarating jetboat ride, the Skyline Gondola, Onsen Hot Pools, wineries or the quaint village of Arrowtown.
