Welcome and orientation, enjoy a Japanese style breakfast before setting off on the metro to Shinjuku. Visit the food hall at Isetan department store. Wander the aisles and marvel at the displays of prepared meals, cakes, desserts, seafood, meats, fruit and vegetables and typical Japanese snacks. Lunch is at a nearby tempura restaurant in Shinjuku. The afternoon is free to explore. Either head back to Isetan or do some shopping in Shinjuku. Optional: Enjoy a sake and shochu tasting in the early evening and learn all about the different varieties. Dinner tonight is at a neighbourhood izakaya in Yoyogi-Uehara. There is a well-chosen sake list on offer.
Rise and shine. Start the day with a trip to the old Tsukiji market for a breakfast of chirashi sushi. Afterwards visit the outer market and wander through the alleyways and stalls. Lunch is at a restaurant specialising in yakiniku, grilled meat cuisine. The afternoon is free to explore. The shops of Ginza are close by and Hibiya Park is just a 15 minute walk.
Dinner tonight is at a modern kaiseki restaurant where you will sample many small, delicious courses.
This morning go to Omote-Sando for a tea tasting. Learn about the preparation of Japanese tea and enjoy some delicious Japanese sweets.
Lunch is at a well-known tonkatsu restaurant in the Nishi-Azabu neighbourhood. The afternoon is free to explore. Head to Roppongi for the National Art Museum and Mori Tower which has an observation deck. Or back to Omote-Sando where you can stroll to Harajuku and Yoyogi Park. Meet in the evening and visit a yakiton standing bar in Akasaka, sample a few skewers before heading to dinner at a lively seafood izakaya that has links to the fish market. After dinner, navigate the backstreets back to Akasaka.
Head to Asakusa this morning. Visit the laneways to find traditional shops and restaurants. Sample pickles and rice crackers, mochi and taiyaki.
Stroll to Kappabashi, kitchen town, to purchase knives, crockery and all things kitchen related. Lunch is a short taxi ride away in Nezu, dining at a famous udon restaurant in peaceful surroundings. The afternoon is free to explore. Visit the nearby Nezu Shrine or Ueno Park. Dinner tonight is at a popular yakitori restaurant in Yoyogi-Uehara
Morning tea at Almond Cafe in Roppongi. Stop at a takoyaki bar on the way to lunch at a restaurant featuring miso and vinegared products.
The afternoon is free to explore, do some last minute shopping, or take the metro to Naka-Meguro for a walk along the tree-lined canal with its many cafes and boutique shops. In the early evening head to the Andaz Tokyo Hotel for a pre-dinner drink and watch the sun go down and the lights go on over Tokyo from the bar on the 51st floor. Tonight’s farewell dinner is at a top sushi restaurant in Ginza.
