Itinerary

Day  1 - Johannesburg to Mpumalanga
Few regions of the world can match the extraordinary beauty of the lowveld and escarpment.  We visit Pilgrams Rest, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window.

Day 2-3 - Kruger National Park
We stay in Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa.  Exciting game drives provide us with excellent game viewing and hopefully the opportunity to spot the ‘BIG 5’.

Day 4 - Kingdom of Swaziland
Leaving South Africa, we explore the Malolotja Nature Reserve on in the mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland. The views are stunning and in the evening we relax around the campfire at the mountain cabins we stay in for the night.

Day 5-6 - Zululand
Explore the craft market near Mbabane before reentering South Africa and heading to the Mhkuze Game Reserve where we hope to see rhino and elephant from the waterhole hide. Then head to Sunway’s private game reserve for 2 nights where a local guide will   lead a walk bird watching and game tracking. Also included is a game drive in Hluhluwe Game Reserve, a safe haven for rhino and a visit to a local Zulu village.

Day 7-8 - Drakensberg Mountains
The Drakensberg are a 200km long mountainous wonderland and world heritage site. From our quaint cottage base we will spend time walking along beautiful mountain stream paths and enjoying the spectacular views.

Day 9-10 - Wild Coast
En-route to the Wild Coast we visit Qunu, the home town of Nelson Mandela, and pay our respects to this great man. The Wild Coast remains a relatively untouched paradise with unspoilt stretches of dramatically beautiful coastline, open spaces and pristine forest areas. We stay overnight in Kei Mouth and the next day is free to explore the area, meet local villagers or go down to the beach.

Day 11 - Addo Elephant National Park
Established in 1931 to protect the last wild elephants from extermination, today it is home to more than 600 elephants and the park also offers excellent viewing of black rhino, cape buffalo, lion and leopard. Morning and afternoon game drives are included.

Day 12-13 - Knysna/Tsistikamma
We will take a day trip to Storms River Mouth walking up the gorge and along the rocky coast.  Sample seafood at one of Knysna’s great seafood restaurants and if you are keen you could do the world’s highest bungy jump (own expense).

Day 14 - Hermanus
Another stop on the famed garden route, Hermanus offers some of the best land based whale watching in the world (June to November).  In whale season we walk along the beautiful coastline, while in the summer months we explore the flowering fynbos in Fernkloof Nature Reserve.

Day 15-16 - Cape Town
On our way to Cape Town we stop in Stellenbosch, part of South Africa’s famed winelands for wine tasting (own expense) and a cellar tour.  In Cape Town we will visit the harbour at Hout Bay, Cape Point, enjoy the famous beaches and the V&A Waterfront.  Optional visit to Robben Island (own expense and weather dependent).

Day 17 - Cape Town
This morning we Climb Table Mountain which offers panoramic views over the ‘mother city’ and out to Robben Island.  The afternoon is free for curio shopping before your tour ends at 6pm back at the guest house.  Additional nights can be booked or we can arrange an transfer to the airport.
