Day 1: Siem Reap - Battambang
This morning a representative will pick you up from your Siem Reap hotel or Siem Reap International Airport where you will then travel to Battambang province. Along the way you’ll have to the opportunity to stop and see how the locals go about their daily lives. On arrival in Battambang, check in to your hotel and freshen up. In the afternoon, visit Ek Phnom, about 45 minutes from Battambang. Ek Phnom is a substantial early 11th century Angkorian-era temple ruin built as a Hindu temple under the ruler Suryavarman I. The temple is in rough condition, consisting of prasats on a platform with some Hindu themed carvings in pretty good condition. You’ll also make a stop where you will learn how the locals produce rice paper, prahoc (typical Cambodian fish paste), grolan (sticky rice stuffed in bamboo) and other Cambodian treats. On the way back, explore the charming city of Battambang where you can view the elegant houses in French-colonial style along the river and the pagoda before heading to your hotel.

Day 2: Battambang – Siem Reap
After breakfast, head to the Bamboo Train station, set up by the local villagers in order to facilitate the transportation of goods and people, as there are no regular trains running any more. The “train” itself is very basic: one bamboo platform on four wheels, activated by a small motor. Sitting on the train, guests will travel 8km to the next station through a beautiful landscape including rice paddies (dependent on travel season). Next, visit Phnom Banan Mountain. Phnom Banan is a hill top mid-11th century Angkorian-era ruin consisting of five prasats (towers) arranged in the quincunx (five-pointed) form reminiscent of Angkor Wat. Several lintel carvings are in good condition. The hill top is a peaceful location with a sweeping view of the surrounding area. Continue on and make a stop at Prasat Phnom Banan Winery, Cambodia's only commercial winery. Here there is opportunity for wine tasting that includes a red wine that is a blend of cabernet and shiraz, a brandy and ginger juice. In the afternoon, head back to Siem Reap.
