Aitutaki and its lagoon captivate visitors from that first glimpse out the aircraft window. Startlingly white swathes of sand contrast with the deep azure of the encircling Pacific Ocean and the remarkable turquoise of its lagoon studded with tiny islets. Just a 45 minute flight from Rarotonga it’s possible to visit Aitutaki on a day trip however we recommend you stay at least two nights to soak up the beautiful surroundings and really get a feel for this little piece of paradise. Hire a bike and explore the deserted beaches, tiny villages and white washed churches! Swim with schools of tropical fish in the lagoon, luxuriate in the sand under a palm tree and eat freshly caught barbecued fish. If you are visiting over the weekend we also highly recommend you pop into the markets on a Saturday at Aratunga Wharf where you will see a hype of activity with locals and tourists alike. Purchase that colourful sarong, indulge in the fresh produce or pick up a souvenir to take back home.
