Imagine a tropical island where there’s fun for the entire family: kids clubs will keep the littlies endlessly entertained. Doesn’t appeal? What about a romantic experience at a boutique luxury island haven with enough beaches for you to have one to yourself? A little beyond your price range? Then how about a traditional thatched bure?
Of course, 1500 kilometres of white sand beaches aren’t the only attraction, there are also coral gardens, turtles to feed, a wide variety of watersports including parasailing and windsurfing as well as dolphin watching, famous dives and some of the best surf breaks in the world. So you can do as little or as much as you want, the choice is yours.
As remote as some of these islands are, getting there doesn’t have to be an all-day experience (unless you want it to be). Upgrade to a seaplane or even a helicopter transfer to or from the islands, the views are something else and you’ll realise that getting there is easy – it’s leaving that’s difficult!
The island resorts are popular with divers. With great dive spots literally on your doorstep, this means you can get into some serious diving very quickly. Many of the island resorts have their own dive operators. Even if you’ve never experienced scuba diving before, there are introductory courses offered by most resorts that will allow you to do so. General snorkelling is safe and fun just off the beach. (Image: ©Treasure Island, Fiji)
The pristine Fiji Islands provide exciting places to fish. Fish include massive giant trevally, yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, walu, black marlin, blue marlin and reef fish. Many of the resorts offer fishing tours as part of their activities menu. (Image: ©Musket Cove Island Resort)
There are some fantastic surf breaks found along the southern part of the Malolo Barrier Reef in the Mamanuca Islands, including Wilkes and Cloudbreak. Many of the island resorts can cater for that secret surf addiction, so why not sneak away for a bit of ‘me time’ and surf at some of the best surf spots in Fiji. (Image: ©Tourism Fiji)
You’ll be able to enjoy many activities at the island resort of your choice. There’ll be the usual snorkelling, kayaking, line fishing and windsurfing, and a range of adrenalin pumping activities such as banana boat rides, parasailing, jetskis and waterskiing – it’s all in a day’s activity in the islands! Modriki Island – pronounced Mon-driki was made famous by the Tom Hanks film Cast Away, and a visit to this tiny, uninhabited beauty is something you’ll never forget. Enjoy the clear warm waters, white sandy beach, coconut trees & clear blue skies. Day trips can be arranged from a selection of Mamanuca island resorts. (Image: ©South Sea Cruises, Seaspray Cruise)
