Just a hop, skip and a jump from Nadi Airport (20 minutes, to be more precise), Denarau was once little more than a marina that served as a jumping off spot to the islands. Sure, there was a world-class 18-hole golf course, but if you weren’t into golf, there was little point in sticking around longer than it took for the next ferry to show up.
How times have changed! Nowadays Denarau is home to a range of world-class resorts offering hotel rooms, suites and luxury villas, all with facilities like lagoonstyle pools, fine dining restaurants and spas. Add to this the Denarau Marina shopping centre and you’ve got a great holiday experience.
Of course, you don’t have to sacrifice the classic Fiji Island experience if you stay on Denarau: there are many day trip options available to the nearby Mamanuca Islands as well as romantic sunset dinner cruises available.
Definitely worth a visit. The centre features shops offering beachwear and clothing, souvenirs, convenience stores and bank, a hot bread shop, a pharmacy and beauty therapy centre. It also features some bars and restaurants serving up Italian and Indian cuisine, Fiji’s first Hard Rock Cafe, and Cardo’s which serves up great steaks. There’s also roving entertainment and evening cultural performances that add to the flavour! (Image: ©Denarau Marina/Chris McLennan)
Denarau is home to an impressive 18-hole championship golf course where bunkers are in the shape of sea creatures. With water challenges on 15 of the 18 holes, it’s sure to test your skills and patience. Fiji Premium Club House Restaurant offers lunch and dinner menus which are available 7 days a week. Hours of operation are from 10am-9pm.
Easily recognisable with their thatched roof and open sides, this is a fun way to get about between resorts on Denarau and Denarau Marina. It operates from 7.30am-11.30pm daily.
