Krabi incorporates the well known destinations of Ao Nang, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta but has an array of lesser known areas just waiting to be explored. It is not as crowded as Phuket and more laid back than Koh Samui but still with stunning scenery. It is renowned for it’s craggy limestone cliffs, white sand beaches, lush jungle and stunning natural scenery. Krabi is located east of Phuket and is great for snorkelling, rock climbing, kayaking and island hopping. It is also great for just relaxing in the sun with a good book and an occasional dip in the warm ocean.
Made up of six islands, including the most famous, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. The Phi Phi Islands conjure up images of white sand beaches, long-tail boats and a chilled vibe, and that’s exactly what you get. Only one island is inhabited but there is a diverse range of areas that will make you happy – a mix of hotels, restaurants and bars to keep you entertained, beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, snorkelling, scuba diving or simply doing nothing or jungle paths to climb and appreciate the views.
Koh Lanta is popular with tourists looking for a quiet holiday and to keen divers. It is the closest island to the famous Hin Daeng, Hin Muang and Koh Haa sites which are some of the best dive sites in Thailand with one of the world’s highest amount of whale shark sightings. For those not keen on the ocean depths, long, fine, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters are sure to impress. A laid-back pace, but still with plenty to do, Koh Lanta is a gem waiting for you.
This is the vibrant tourist spot with restaurants and shops on your doorstep, but still managing to keep it’s relaxed atmosphere of a small town and it’s beautiful beach. Strolling from one end of town to the other won’t take too much time, leaving your schedule wide open for exploring the cliff-tops and the bays in the vicinity.
A small peninisula that is only accessible by boat and once there, no roads, just footpaths. No motorised land vehicles, it will only be the motors of longtail boats you’ll hear humming in the distance. Lazy days await if you wish, but do get out and explore the limestone caves, discover the impressive viewpoints and visit the nearby islands. And enjoy the sunsets – water plus cliffs make an awesome spectacle.
