Silversea Silver Muse: The review

By Jeff Leckey.

Jeff Leckey our GM of Cruise provides the lowdown on all things Super Luxury Cruising.

“At the end of 2018, a pre-Christmas break seemed like a fantastic idea, so my family and I flew to Singapore and joined the latest flagship in the Silversea fleet, Silver Muse, for a cruise from Singapore to Bali.”

If you have never cruised on a super luxury cruise line before then it is worth considering, especially if you tend to book Mini Suites etc on traditional cruise lines as you will find the price difference is not that great and the super luxury cruise lines tend to be a lot more inclusive. Silver sea includes onboard drinks, wifi and almost all of their restaurants so a lot less to have to pay out for on board.

With only 596 guests and an all-suite configuration, we were pretty excited to experience this type of ship. On our particular voyage there was a complement of 405 passengers and 411 crew so you can only begin to imagine how good the service was!

Silver Muse herself did not disappoint. She is a stunner and our whole on-board experience really over delivered, from the on-board welcome off the crew right through to the special touches of fresh flowers everywhere. Her glamourous Italian design shines through, with beautiful fixtures and fittings and nice design touches on every turn.

One of the things that sets Silversea apart is the fact that every room is a suite and each one has its own private Butler! Our suite was on deck eight and mid ship by the central stair way. This was the perfect location for everything on-board and super handy for The Arts Café where they serve fantastic coffees and cakes at any time of day.

Butler service was a new experience for us, but our Butler, Jerry was fantastic. He took care of all our dining reservations and helped with anything we needed on-board. He even polished all my shoes one day, which was totally unexpected.

Suites are super spacious with the best linens and one of the most comfortable beds at sea. Your own sitting area and a good size balcony mean you have plenty of room to relax. The mini bar is stocked with your preference of spirit, beers or wines and there was never any shortage of bubbles if you prefer to toast your cruise in style.

Bathrooms are large with bath and shower plus amenities are Bulgari or a choice of other top brands if you prefer. A walk-in wardrobe means there is plenty of storage.

Dining options were endless and we made it our mission to sample as many of them as we could during our 10-day cruise. Silver Muse has everything from casual Hot Rock dining (lava stone cooking) at the Grill by the pool, which was perfect on those balmy Asia evenings; a fantastic Italian pizzeria Spaccanapoli which is great when you return from a shore excursion for a tasty hand thrown Italian Pizza, and for a special night, book in at Silver Note; there is a small cover charge but for an evening of Jazz and tapas it really was something else.

HOT TIP: There are two restaurants that carry cover charges: La Dame for the most amazing French Cuisine and Kaiseki, for a Teppanyaki experience.

The ship’s included dining options are numerous and our “go to” was the Asian fusion at Indochine, as well as the fabulous selection at Atlantide. In the evenings they do require a jacket for gents, even if you don’t actually wear it!

La Terrazza is an upmarket buffet for breakfast but for lunch and dinner, it transforms into a wonderful Italian restaurant. Ask your Butler to make you a reservation because it’s super popular.

HOT TIP: Love caffeine? Me too. The Arts Café is a perfect spot to get you coffee fix.

Silver Muse does an indoor - outdoor flow very well, with beautiful outdoor seating off the Arts Café and restaurant. At La Terraza you have the choice of dining both of indoors and out.

As we were cruising South East Asia during the monsoon we would make our dining location based on the weather at the time. Plenty of undercover options if it was wet! The ship’s designers have thought this one out really well, with pull down screens for when there are showers.

The pool, gym and spa are a great size for the number of passengers and are a necessary distraction after all the fabulous food. Entertainment tends to be low key, with no big Broadway style shows but instead, some very interesting enrichment lectures and some fabulous soloists and quartet bands.

Fitness classes such as yoga and Pilates are also included at no extra costs - another great value inclusion if you like to take part in these things.

Most passengers were very well travelled and at least 60% on our voyage were repeat Silversea passengers showing the loyalty that the Super luxury brands generate

Would I cruise Silver Muse again? Yes, in a heartbeat. She is one of my all-time favourite ships, we all loved the small intimate size and the amazing service from the super friendly crew.
