Best restaurants on the Gold Coast: The Fish House

story by: Anna Sarjeant

Often when Kiwi’s visit the GC it’s very easy to stay within the vicinity of Main Beach, but just a quick 30 minute drive south, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast – Burleigh Heads.  This spot has been adored by local surfers, beach babes & optimistic seagulls for many years, and has the added bonus of less crowds than Surfers’.  Situated across the road from this beautiful stretch of white sand, sits The Fish House.  A quaint looking restaurant where you can enjoy the spectacular views.  It’s the perfect place for couples and friends to enjoy a bottle of wine and some of the Gold Coast’s finest seafood dishes.

Restaurateur Simon Gloftis has been involved in hospitality his whole life owning several restaurants throughout his career, each with their own unique flavour and experience.  The inspiration for The Fish House menu came from Southern Europe and each dish is carefully crafted to complement the natural flavours of the fresh produce which is sourced daily.  The result, simple & elegant food that will leave your mouth watering.

If you have time to relax the afternoon away, go for “The Fish House Experience”.  A series of tasting plates that will take your taste buds through a delectable journey of ocean treats, from Raw Yellowfin Tuna with Pacific Oyster & Sterling Caviar to Simon’s Grandmother’s famous Lemony Fish Soup - so good that Simon has the recipe permanently inked on his arm.

If, like me, you dined out on the decadence of this place all afternoon, then popping over the road for a stroll on Burleigh Heads is highly recommended! There are some great spots just up the hill to sit and watch the surfers amongst the waves, or the breath-taking sunset on a warm night.  Just be sure not to take any food down to the beach, those seagulls like to work in packs and you’ll have the locals in hysterics whilst you try to ward them off.
