Our Favourite Perth Bars

story by: Tom Ricketts

The city of Perth in Western Australia has a surprisingly large amount of great pubs and bars to spend your evenings in. With cashed up miners converging on the city, and the two million locals, you’re always going to find a vibrant bar scene. The CBD has a number of new and funky bars, with the nightlife is centred in Northbridge. Beachside suburbs of Fremantle and Cottesloe Beach also have some great spots. Here’s a few of our favourites to get you started…

Bobeche, 131 St Georges Terrace
This cool little bar has a 1920’s carnival theme, dark furniture, dim lighting and plenty of candles. If you like to hide away in a corner for a quiet chat, this is the place for you. Beer on tap, plus plenty of wine and spirits.

Mechanics Institute, 222 William Street
Wedged between some heritage buildings, Mechanics is a small bar with a great outdoor area for the hot Perth nights. If you’re in need of a feed, they’ll order up burgers and fries from local favourite Flipside and have them delivered to the bar.

Bar Lafayette, 125 St Georges Terrace
An old world style bar kitted out with studded leather couches, polished wooden floors antique furniture. Cocktail fans will love their seven page cocktail menu!

1907, 26 Queen Street
1907 is a restaurant and bar housed in a 100 year old renovated factory. At street level, the restaurant cooks up beautifully presented French inspired cuisine and has been cleaning up on the awards side of things recently. The bar is downstairs and has Hollywood glamour theme complete with bartenders dressed in suits! Not to be outdone, the bar has also been winning plenty of awards.

Cottesloe Beach Hotel, 104 Marine Parade
An institution in Perth, the iconic Cottesloe Beach Hotel was first opened in 1905. It still operates as a proper hotel today and has two great wining and dining options. Verandah Bar is the perfect place to unwind and watch what’s going on at the beach. Or in the beer garden called The Beach Club, sit back and watch a film in the open air cinema (check out Facebook for times and listings).

Little Creatures, 40 Mews Road
Fremantle is the latest spot to see and be seen in so a lot of bars and restaurants have been opening up here in recent years. Little Creatures first started brewing here in 2001 and their beers can now be found across Australia and even at craft beer pubs in New Zealand. They’ve added an industrial style restaurant which has fast become one of the most popular in Perth. Brewery tours run daily at 1.00pm, 2.00pm and 3.00pm.
