Calling All Foodies: The Sunshine Coast Will Satisfy Your Culinary Curiosity

story by: House of Travel

The Sunshine Coast is the ideal holiday destination for those keen to escape to where the sun shines in 2015. From the trendy beaches, bars and boutiques of Noosa, to the sun-drenched surf beaches and backpacker resorts of Mooloolaba, this stretch of glorious Queensland coast has something to offer every kind of holidaymaker. Whether you're young in years or young at heart you'll fall in love with the Sunshine Coast's charms.

Activities and attractions abound here and whether you spend your time strolling through beautiful native bush or getting your adrenaline pumping on the epic waves, the one common denominator of all Sunshine Coast holidays will be outstanding dining options. You'll find everything from international standard fine dining to quality cheap eateries in the Sunshine Coast's eclectic towns.

Here are some of our favourite foodie hotspots for you to try.

Tides Waterfront Dining - Caloundra
It's hard to know what Tides Waterfront Dining's biggest attraction is—the exemplary dishes or the spectacular 270-degree views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Pumicestone Passage and the Glasshouse Mountains. The team at Tides claim they are passionate about making every customer feel like a VIP, so expect a dining experience that's every bit as exciting as the award-winning culinary creations you'll enjoy.

Fresh seafood is the pride and joy of the menu, but you'll also find mouthwatering dishes such as pork belly served with braised beans, chorizo, calamari and aubergine or lamb rump with artichoke, potato, tomato, feta, olives and mint on offer.

While you're in Caloundra you might want to learn a few chef's secret cooking techniques with a cookery class at the Red Hot Chilli Pepper cooking school. Take home more than just photos with one of their specially themed afternoon classes.

Spice Bar - Mooloolaba
Heading north along the Sunshine Coast brings you to Mooloolaba, where more incredible eateries await. Spice Bar is a trendy and contemporary restaurant that fuses the best of modern Australian and Asian cuisines. Located on Mooloolaba Esplanade, the cutting edge decor sets the atmosphere for a truly memorable dining experience.

Choose from sumptuous dishes such as Bangalow pork cheek served with red cabbage, apple and pardon peppers, or beef fillet with papaya, lemongrass, tomato and chili tamarind. Wash your meal down with one of Spice Bar's signature cocktails - it's the best way to do the amazing food justice.

If you can't decide what kind of food you're after in Mooloolaba, head to the new Ocean Street Dining Precinct in Maroochydore. Here you'll find an eclectic mix of multicultural dishes to whet your appetite.

The Spirit House - Yandina
Our favourite restaurant in the surfing and golfing mecca of Coolum tends to change regularly. Pitchfork, located in the heart of Peregian Beach, serves up seasonal Australian dishes in a rustic and relaxed environment. The Yandina Hotel, meanwhile, is home to the Sunshine Coast's oldest pub and offers quality meals befitting such an historic institution. Then there's Embassy XO in Sunshine Beach, where the modern and intimate decor sets a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some of Queensland's finest Asian cuisine.

But for a true feast for all the senses, head to the Spirit House in Yandina, just 20 minutes outside of Coolum. Lush tropical gardens and private dining courtyards create a secluded and exotic atmosphere. The aromatic and spicy modern Thai creations are the proverbial icing on the cake.

Wasabi Restaurant & Bar - Noosa
Noosa, at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast has a well-deserved reputation for cool and contemporary dining. Wasabi Restaurant & Bar is a quintessential example of this classy restaurant culture. Traditional Japanese dishes cooked with a contemporary flair fill the menu. The amazing food and charming ambience saw it named Queensland's number one restaurant in Gourmet Traveller's Top 100 Restaurants in 2014, commenting that it 'can easily lay claim to being one of Australia's best Japanese restaurants.' This is one not to be missed.

Some other Noosa hotspots include the haven of sumptuous indulgence, Berado's Restaurant & Bar, the homely and relaxed Bohemian Bungalow in Eumundi, and the wonderfully charming Thomas Corner Eatery overlooking the Noosa River.
