Go wild for wildlife Animal lovers are in their element on the Sunshine Coast. The whole area is just bursting with exciting opportunities to get up close and personal with cute, cuddly, furry, slimy, leathery and muscly creatures of all shape and size. The world-famous Australia Zoo, located in Caloundra, is without doubt one of the region's most popular attractions. With over 1,200 animals and a stackload of free feedings and shows every day, it's one of the best wildlife adventures you'll find anywhere. Koalas, snakes, kangaroos, tigers, elephants, monkeys—the list of exotic creatures in the zoo goes on and on and on. If marine animals are more your kind of thing, head up the road to Mooloolaba, where you'll find Sealife. Sixteen different themed zones take you on an exploration of the magical and mystical underwater world. With over 10,000 creatures, including sharks, rays, sea dragons and Australia's largest collection of jellyfish you'll lose yourself among these curious creatures. While you're in Mooloolaba, take to the ocean and get up close and personal with one of the ocean's most fascinating mammals—the humpback whale. Sunreef will take you on a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you cruise out across the glorious blue ocean and dive into the water to swim with the whales. It's an adventure beyond words. For a chance to get a closer look at one of Australia's most iconic animals, the koala, make the trip to Noosa, where you'll find Noosa National Park. With mile after mile of thick bushland, majestic kauri trees and glorious rocky shoreline, it's a pure dream for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are five tracks in the park, ranging from one to eight kilometres long. Keep an eye out for the koalas hiding amongst the trees. If you're lucky, you might even spot the rare glossy black-cockatoo. Limber up and get sporty The Sunshine Coast has a tonne of great activities for sporting geeks and fitness freaks. The aforementioned Noosa National Park is perfect for building up a sweat along the scenic walks and tracks throughout the park. Mount Coolum is another popular hiking spot. Over 700 different types of plant will be sure to keep you captivated as you complete the climb, which takes approximately three hours return. Meanwhile, keen golfers can enjoy a more relaxing sporting venture at the nearby Palmer Coolum Golf Course. Enjoy playing 18 holes on this beautifully landscaped course as the sun shines down.
