Take On Vanuatu with the Kids in Tow

story by: House of Travel

Vanuatu is positively idyllic, with a culture so welcoming it can be hard to tear yourself away to fly back home. The sun, sand and relaxed pace of life certainly don't help when it comes time to board a flight back to New Zealand, either. So come on over, stay a while, and learn about what makes this island destination so enchanting for people from all over the world. And best of all? The kids are invited, too.

The hotels and resorts in Vanuatu are perfectly poised to host you and your little ones, with a range of places that invite kids to stay and play for free when holidaying with their parents. Warwick le Lagon Resort and Spa Vanuatu, Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu and Iririki Island Resort are all such destinations that offer special packages and deals for the little ones. They include features such as free meals for kids eating with parents on-site and complimentary kids' clubs, where there are a range of activities available for on-site guests free of charge. Most offer babysitting services as well as fun pools and play areas, giving you the chance to enjoy some rest and relaxation while your kids frolic safely nearby.

Horse riding is a great way to see the sights of Vanuatu and get your kids out and about. Hunt out Club Hippique Adventure Park, located just 10 minutes from Port Vila. Rides here are suited for everyone from beginners through to serious horse lovers, with jungle rides sitting nicely alongside beach/lagoon rides for the best of both worlds. The provider is fully insured and equipped with everything you need to get riding. Pay close attention to your horse's temperament - island horses are known for being quiet, relaxed and sure-footed, so you're not at risk of them galloping away with you on their back!

Try a full day beach ride, a cultural village ride that takes you to a traditional Melanesian cultural village, or stick to a two hour rainforest or sunset ride to appease short attention spans.

There's no better way to see the water in Vanuatu than getting out in (and on!) it - this is where kayaking and canoeing comes in. Try Kayaking Vanuatu for guided tours or simple kayak hire and explore the azure waters that you'll never want to leave. Best of all, kids aged between 6 and 12 can typically enjoy tours here for half price! Kayak and swim your way through Mele Bay's beautifully warm waters, hand feeding tiny fish as you go. You may even spot turtles and dolphins during the trip, which is sure to delight family members of all ages. Glass bottom kayaks make it exceptionally easy for you to see what lies beneath, but the water here is so relaxing you've simply got to get out of your vessel and into the deep blue sea!

For sensational snorkelling, head to nearby Hideaway Island. Kids will love the marine life, bustling with enquiring rainbow fish - not to mention the underwater post office where they can collect postcards as keepsakes or to send back home!
