Feeling Flirty in France

story by: House of Travel

If there was ever a country perfectly poised to accommodate true love (or, at the very least, a holiday fling) it would be France. It's the home of Paris, known globally as the city of love, and has one of the most beautiful languages heard anywhere on Earth. It's hard not to fall in love with France, and if you're there with a special someone the allure is that much stronger. Take a look at these utterly romantic destinations when you next venture to the country.

Paris
No romantic roundup would be complete without a mention of Paris, widely regarded as one of the most romantic destinations in the world. Part of its charm lies in its layout - it's built on the River Seine's arc and divided into the northern Right Bank and southern Left Bank. Add in an assortment of bustling bars, cafes and restaurants, plus plenty of hidden jewels, and you've got a city built for romance. Impressive monuments and attractions including the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Arc de Triomphe add extra points of interest and make for perfect photo opportunities, whether or not you brave the queues to venture inside.

Be sure to check out 'le mur des je'taime', also known as the I Love You Wall, a 40-square-metre work of art with squares of enamelled lava on which the phrase "I love you" is written 311 times in 250 languages. It's located in Montmartre's Place de Abbesses square and is rapidly becoming a favourite spot for lovers to meet.

Nice
Journey to the banks of the Mediterranean to visit stunning Nice, the Capital of the Cote d'Azur and one of France's most beloved cities. It’s warm, sunny weather and stunning landscapes attract honeymooners and holidaymakers here year-round.

The Old Town is a must-visit location, nestled behind the seafront along Cours Saleya. The markets here are the perfect place to stop in and buy fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers for your lover, with local specialities also available to eat on-site. Stroll through Castle Hill and take it its unspoilt beauty, complete with beautiful greenery and even a waterfall, and cast your eyes over Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels) and Vieux Nice (Old Town Nice). This walk is an ideal evening stroll for lovers, with spectacular lighting illuminating the dark sky.

Chamonix Mont-Blanc
Imagine declaring your love for your partner under gently falling snow before thrusting yourself down a mountain atop two skis. At Chamonix Mont-Blanc, this fantasy can become a reality.

Chamonix is a world-famous ski and snowboard destination that is visited by travellers from every corner of the globe. With a mountain 4,810 metres high and covered in powdery white snow, it's hard to resist the allure of strapping on your skis and spending the day on the slopes with the one you love. Once you've finished with the sports, treat your partner to an utterly indulgent massage or spa treatment at one of the world-class facilities here, such as Deep Nature Spa or Serenity Spa du Park Hôtel.

Carcassonne
Carcassonne is an utterly romantic medieval fortified town, with its UNESCO World Heritage listing proving its worth as a holiday destination. Take your loved one to see the massive castle (which is believed to have inspired the story of Sleeping Beauty) here and marvel at the ancient Gothic cathedral, then journey across the river to take in the newer part of the city. Spend a day roaming the old streets and indulge in a wine tour around the outskirts on the city, where there are plenty of vineyards offering tastings.
