Tantalise Your Taste Buds in Tropical North Queensland

story by: House of Travel

Picture this: You've spent the morning tramping through lush rainforest and marvelling at the thriving flora and fauna there. Then, after an afternoon spent soaking up the sun on a gorgeous white sand beach, you treated yourself to an indulgent massage at a local spa.

Sounds like a pretty heavenly day, right? Well, it's pretty par for the course in one of the most idyllic parts of Australia - Tropical North Queensland. And it only gets better from there, because after all that it's time to enjoy a sumptuous evening feast at one of the region's outstanding restaurants - of which there are many. So which one will you choose?

Tamarind Restaurant, Cairns

If the contemporary menu of exotic Asian fusion dishes at Tamarind Restaurant isn't enough to entice you, maybe the chance to strike it rich at the Reef Hotel Casino (where Tamarind resides) is. Located in the heart of downtown Cairns and with a list of awards as long as Rapunzel's hair, Tamarind is recognised as one of Queensland's premier restaurants.

On the menu you'll find mouth-watering dishes such as Penang duck curry with caramelised pumpkin, roasted peanuts and chili, roasted eye fillet with king brown mushroom, porcini, onion soubise and truffle jus and many more mouth-watering options. To accompany your meal choose from a wine list of over 100 local and international varietals, or a one of the bespoke creations on the Tamarind cocktail menu.

Other highlights of Cairn's burgeoning cuisine scene include Salt House, which offers excellent dining and panoramic views of the Cairns waterfront, and Dundee's Waterfront Restaurant, with a casual boardwalk setting and a diverse and appealing menu.

Lime & Pepper, Palm Cove

Heading further north from Cairns to the quaint beachside village of Palm Cove brings another plethora of fantastic dining options. Lime & Pepper, at the luxurious Peppers Beach Club & Spa, utilises fresh local produce to create a range of innovative and sumptuous dishes that perfectly complement the resort's beach side location.

The diverse menu features dishes to suit every palate, but the 'Tastes' and 'Plates' sharing options are the real treat here. Choose from the likes of New York cut Morganbury sirloin steak from the tablelands with dry sea salt and rosemary rub, or Raz al Hanut spiced cassava and lentil croquettes for a perfect shared meal with friends.

At nearby Trinity Beach, you'll also find l'unico restaurant, where you can enjoy fresh and flavourful Italian pasta, seafood and wood-fired pizza in a splendind Esplanade setting - ideal for a romantic meal as the sun goes down.

Bazaar @ QT, Port Douglas

It's hard to really capture the smorgasbord of sights and smells that greet you when you enter the sensational Bazaar at Port Douglas' QT Resort. Inspired by street stalls, souks and bodegas of old, choose from a breath-taking variety of dishes prepared fresh at each cooking station. Sizzling Asian woks sit beside wood-fired pizza ovens, while just around the corner you find a pedestal of glistening seafood right beside a vast selection of European cheese and charcuterie.

At Bazaar your senses are overwhelmed in the best possible way - the only thing to do is dive right in.

Port Douglas has an abundance of other great restaurants, including Salsa Bar & Grill, where Australian and International dishes satisfy even the fussiest of punters. Zinc Restaurant is another popular choice. Indulge in seafood fished fresh from local waters in an atmosphere that's as relaxed and comforting as you'll find anywhere.
