The resort pool could understandably not be much of a concern for those travelling to the tropical Cook Islands, pretty much every resort is on the beach anyway right? This is true. However, there are some truly awesome pools in the Cooks that deserve mention. Here’s why…
THE LITTLE POLYNESIAN
Perhaps the most stunning pool on Rarotonga is at the Little Polynesian. The beautiful infinity pool looks out over the beach, is surrounded by plush loungers and gazebos, and only a wave away from the resorts famed cocktail bar. Even better, the resort has only 14 rooms and doesn’t take kiddies, so the pool’s all yours.
CROWN BEACH RESORT
Located on the sunset side of the island, Crown Beach does have a large resort pool, but it’s the private ones we particularly like here. For the ultimate in seclusion, stay in one of Crown’s Courtyard Pool Suites. These luxury suites are surrounded by high stone walls giving you a private courtyard, complete with your very own plunge pool.
Two words; pool bar! These are hard to come by in the Cooks, but the Sanctuary has one of the best. The pool is located mid-resort, surrounded by the hotel rooms which gives the place its apt name, the Sanctuary. You can sit in the refreshing water while chatting with the barman, or glide on over to one of the surrounding cabanas.
PACIFIC RESORT AITUTAKI
No that’s not the Aitutaki Lagoon, it’s the Pacific Resorts infinity pool! Perched just above the beach, this pool has the same beautiful colours of her neighbouring lagoon, and is arguably the most beautiful in the country.
Definitely one of the more unusual pools on Rarotonga, Magic Reef Beachside Bungalows have a pirate ship themed pool right in the middle of the resort. Sadly, kids under twelve can’t stay here, but that doesn’t stop the older kids, or the young at heart.
