Top Three Sights to See in Ho Chi Minh City

story by: House of Travel

Ho Chi Minh City, formally known as Saigon, is in itself one of Vietnam's must-sees, but if you've only got limited time at this fascinating destination, where are you going to go?

Here are three of the city's top places for you to enjoy - but try to see more if you can!

The City Hall
Take a look into the city's culture and history with a visit to City Hall. It's a beautiful structure so definitely stop to take a few snaps out the front to upload to your Instagram or Facebook account! The building was completed in 1908, dating back to colonial times, so it's of French design. It looks particularly stunning at night time when its cream and peach-coloured exterior is beautifully lit.

Visitors aren't permitted to venture inside the building as it is an operational government site - but the exterior is just so darling that it's worth a trip all the same.

District 5
Ho Chi Minh City is divided into a series of districts, each with its own distinct and unique flavour - literally and figuratively speaking! That is, if you're eager to savour the flavours of China, you can do so in District 5 - Chinatown.

Here you'll find Vietnam's largest market, plenty of Chinese pagodas, a shopping mall filled to the brim with the latest fashions and goodies, not to mention plenty of delectable Chinese fare. Dine on dim sum, take snaps in front of the picturesque pagodas and discover China's very own haven in Vietnam.

Cu Chi Tunnels
Under the wider Ho Chi Minh City region is a vast system of intricate tunnels built in the 1940s and used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War - known locally as the American War.

They were used for hiding, transporting supplies and for hospital and communication purposes. You can take a tour of the tunnels that often flummoxed American forces and might even get to take a squeeze through some tight spaces yourself. Exciting stuff!
