House of Travel
Thailand, and its gorgeous southern island of Phuket, has been a favourite travel destination for Kiwis since way back when. And it's no wonder, because it's absolutely beautiful. Phuket in particular has a reputation for being a hot spot for natural splendour and adventurous activities.
While you can certainly spend your days lolling on the golden sand without lifting a finger, many holidaymakers make the most of the tropical surrounds by partaking in outdoor pursuits.
Check out these three adventures for when you grace Phuket's shores!
There's nothing like exploring Phuket's underwater realm. Plunge into the crystal clear Andaman Sea and check out what lies beneath, including colourful coral, fascinating rock formations and schools of fish darting back and forth.
Brave souls may want to take a day trip to Shark Point where you can see gentle Leopard Sharks on the sandy seafloor! Not only will you encounter many of these docile giants, you'll also encounter bright tropical fish, sea fans, eels and soft corals.
Glide along the water
While diving deep into the water provides plenty of thrills, so does paddling along the top of it!
There are plenty of kayak and canoe hires out there, so grab one and jump right in.
If you're travelling as a couple a kayak for two is the perfection option. You might even want to pair up with a friend - but heading out solo is sure to be a great adventure too.
Into the jungle
Phuket is home to such lush jungle it'd be a shame for adventurous spirits not to explore it. Try a jungle trek through Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, located to the island's north. It's home to incredible virgin rainforest, with langurs, bears, boar, gibbons and barking deer just some of the creatures you'll spot.
Be sure to visit the picturesque Tonsai waterfall and spend plenty of time taking in the fresh jungle air.
