A Weekend on Sentosa Island, Singapore

story by: Mike Williams

Sentosa Island has become a must-visit when staying in Singapore, either as a day trip or for a night or two of relaxation. Located close to Singapore city, it can be reached by bridge or a 1.6 km cable car ride. Resorts World Sentosa hosts some of Sentosa’s most enticing attractions, such as a Universal Studios theme park, as well as being a tempting retreat with 1,800 rooms across six different hotels. It is also home to one of Singapore’s two casinos.

Nowadays, Sentosa Island boasts a wide range of activities and has something for everyone. There is a 2 km long sheltered beach, the Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom and two stunning golf courses. The Merlion Statue is a 37 metre tall replica of the iconic mythical creature with the head of a lion and body of a fish. It’s considerably bigger than the original, which is 8.6 metres tall and located at Merlion Park in Singapore.

The Tanjung Beach Club is a popular escape over the weekends, an exciting blend of restaurants, bars and fun, whether it be via beach volleyball, beer pong or chilling in the pool. Afterwards, relax at Underwater World with some fish reflexology, where special fish nibble away at the dead skin on your feet to make your skin smooth. A little too exotic? Treat yourself to one of the many services at the Health Club and Spa. Spa Botanica also has a range of treatments available including mud pools and Turkish-styled steam baths.

Once your feet are smooth from all the fish reflexology, you’ll be primed to hit VivoCity, the largest shopping mall in Singapore. VivoCity sits on the other side of the Sentosa Gateway, which connects Sentosa to the mainland and has a terminal for the Sentosa Express monorail. Whether it is the 1,040,000 square feet of retail space, dancing in one of the clubs or playing in the open-air playground, afterwards you may need to head back to Resorts World Sentosa to recover.
