Inspire Magazine - Star Struck in Hollywood

story by: Inspire Magazine

As the epicentre of worldwide popular culture and the neighbourhood that many of the stars, directors and producers call home, West Hollywood is certainly like no other.

Rodeo Drive, Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills; they are locations that personify the mystique of the movies, and are perfect environments for observing the movie mogul or star in their natural habitat. Cruise Sunset Strip - a 2.4km section of Sunset Boulevard - and the gaudy, neon impression you've brought with you is seemingly confirmed; but look again. There are venerable establishments like Whiskey A Go Go alongside places that haven't even been named yet. The 'Strip' is a heritage icon and also a constantly evolving testing ground for breakthrough ideas in entertainment.

Still on Sunset and wanting to splurge on a special lunch? Try Café Med for outstanding Italian cuisine, a table outside delivers memorable people-watching opportunities. Or opt for the evening charm of Le Petit Four, which attracts stars and the not-so-famous with what the restaurant itself claims is an 'eclectic' menu.

After the marvellous shopping on Rodeo Drive, and eye-popping grandeur of celebrity mansions in Beverley Hills, most Kiwis will begin yearning for the wholesome pleasures of a beach so head over to Santa Monica to experience the whole place as a culture and art show that shouldn't be missed. Stroll the pier and grab a hotdog, soak up the sunshine and the fashions that we won't be seeing in New Zealand until next year. Then cool off in the Museum of Art before hiring a bike to cycle the 35km ocean front boardwalk to Redondo.
