Wet Season Kakadu & Arnhem Land Safari, Australia

story by: Inspire Australia

It is really amazing to soak up the beauty of these spectacular wet season landscapes from the air. This season has a lot to offer and if you don’t mind a bit of humidity it can be a really rewarding time to experience the Top End. In addition to the lighting storms and the great fishing, the waterfalls are at their most spectacular, the wildflowers are in bloom and wildlife is abundant.

Day 1: Kakadu
Journey into the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park and visit the Bowali Visitor and Information Centre with its wealth of information and displays on the Park. Next stop is Nourlangie, an ancient Aboriginal rock art and occupation site which Aboriginal people have inhabited for thousands of years. This occupation can still clearly be seen with the various rock paintings, and your guide will give explanations of the stories behind the rock art. Get a spectacular view throughout Kakadu and over into the Arnhem Land escarpment country from the Nawalandja lookout.

Day 2: Arnhem Land
Join a spectacular scenic flight across the Arnhem Land escarpment and East Alligator region to Arnhem Land and the Aboriginal community of Gunbalanya. Upon arrival your local Aboriginal guide will take you on a tour throughout the community which is steeped in history. Visit the world renowned Injalak Arts and Craft Centre where you’ll meet with traditional artists before reboarding a plane for the scenic flight back to Jabiru. From Jabiru you’ll make your way back to Darwin along the Arnhem Highway stopping at the Mamukala wetlands on the way.
